Humax FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder-2TB Reviews

This model is not as good as the previous model, it is not as straight forward and easy to use. We love the fact that it records more programmes but sometimes it doesn't record planned recordings. The other problem is that if you press record after the programme has started, it only records a few minutes of the show! If you then press the record again, it asks if you want to record to the end; well yes, of course I do!

Good box with lots of features. Response time with the remote is a little slow and it could be improved if the ability to download other apps such as Prime Video.

The user interface is much less useful - or usable - than that of my older Humax HDR-2000T. As examples: Select a recording of a linked series: the newest recording is selected rather than the earliest and there's no way of telling which recording is which until it's selected and further information is revealed in a new sub-window. Changing dates in the programme guide requires a button press to a sub-menue, then select change date, then select day then select guide for that day. Why no direct 'forward/backward one day' ? It looks pretty (perhaps) but it isn't practical. The simplest of all, the power LED projects down rather than forward, so it is visible only as a faint reflection from the supporting shelf. Crazy! The recordings are of good quality, but the machine is let down by the user interface.

Very unprepossessing set-top box with a lot of capacity but unbearably slow to switch on and between features. Very annoyed that I could not enter the special characters in my WPA2 router password so had to enter my router admin and change my password to something much shorter and simpler! This was very awkward and not good for security. BBC iPlayer must be an old version because you don't get the green popup allowing you to restart a program. Using the Program Guide, another useful feature would be to use the Yellow and Blue buttons to move forward or back one day, instead of having to use the cumbersome +Options menu. Plus, pressing Program Up/Down should move a whole page up or down, NOT leaving the selection one line from bottom on the SAME page. Very confusing. The Recordings screen needs to show dates and does not remember the last program you were watching which is annoying when you go back. It would be a nice touch if you could just press Play on the remote when unit is off (or indeed when just watching Live TV) and the unit would start up and continue playing the last recording watched. This is the best feature of my Panasonic HDD-PVR, apart from the following: Another feature you have removed from previous models is the ability to Rename recordings which you want to archive, and to create new folders to move your archives into. Please provide this again.

The Humax FVP-5000T is easy to set up and use. The remote control is well designed and intuitive to use.

Potentially, I could record 4 programmes whilst watching (playback) another. Excellent "guide" for programmes for the next 8 days. The colour function buttons are not operational. The user manual leaves a lot to be desired - itis not for technophobes.

It works very well with good integration with catch TV and the TV guide. Good sound and vision quality. The recording schedule also works well. All together a good product

I bought this box recently as my old Humax box was full & decided to buy a bigger memory. However it seems to have problems with freezing & no buttons will move anything! I gather from forums this is a problem some have incurred & the answer is to switch off the set & box for a while & it will reset itself. Luckily that has worked for me but I find it's a nuisance & not what I expected from a NEW product.
