Humax FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder-2TB Reviews

Does what it says on the tin. My only criticisms are of changes from the previous foxsat boxes. There is no skip facility in replay, only fast forward, and the ability to manage files and create folders is gone. I cannot understand why Humax would reduce flexibility in this way - it seems entirely counter productive.

Bit blown away on first see it improving all the time. The volume is some what lacking and it turns off after a period of time, other than that I would say is brilliant. David Bath

The recorder is definitely a step up from my previous Humax HDR2000T. The start up is excellent, very fast. The interface is very different and I'm still finding new things after nearly 3 weeks. However, once you are familiar with it, it works well. There are different routes to get to the facility you want, rather than having to go back through the menu levels. Being able to record more programs simultaneously, means not having to use plus 1 channels, that are typically not HD. The box performs very well and is smaller and neater than the old one. My only criticism is the light. I have the recorder installed on a low shelf, and at some angles it is hard to see the light, a very minor issue with an otherwise great product.

Can't create folders and move films/photos into them. Colours of TV guide and info text could be better. Preview of channel before accepting would have been better. HDR FOX T2 wins it by 100%. Its naw stuck in the bedroom as a spare.

This is a box with some problems. On the plus side, it has plenty of recording space, it can record four programmes at once, and it can be backed up and receive content from other recorders - our Youview box went south but the hard drive was fine, so I could drop some 700 recordings on to the new one. So, the menu system is messy. Its been over-thought - almost as if someone designed it to work from a tablet? The buttons on the remote are confusing because its plainly been designed to look like th old Youview one, but many of the functions have had to be moved AND NOT PROPERLY EXPLAINED!!!! It has three really big problems. Its slower to do pretty much anything, the 'record programme' function repeatedly doesn't work (likely the software library to do that crashes and doesn't get restarted), requiring a hard reboot of the box (power off/on), and one of the really really good features of the Youview boxes, the list of 'on demand' programmes already select to watch (and the ability to do a 'watch series' from the search, for on-demand) is simply missing. This is a product with much potential, but its got some problems. Some software improvements required.

I have been unable to get the system to set up completely despite following the supplied procedures for reasons unknown. It skips past sections 3 and 4, works fine as a simple recorder.
