Freeview Play Recorder FVP-5000T 1TB (Refurbished) Reviews

This is an excellent recorder and does everything I expected of it....however..I have raised a query with Humax regarding the apparent high temperatures I am experiencing even when on 'standby' when power consumption is rated at 0.5 watts. An infra red temperature gauge gives a reading of +49 Deg C which to me seems a little hot! My review has been marked down as I have yet to receive a reply from Humax and it's well over one week now!

FVP-5000T has a weak signal amplifier leading to visual and audio glitches on some channels, both in display and in recordings. (Different recorder in same setup works fine.). After sending a second FVP-5000T in case the first one was defective, the supplier agreed that the device was not suited to my area and agreed to a refund. Neither refund nor email showing account refund arrived within the stated time of two weeks. When I contacted the supplier again I immediate received email showing account refund, and money was returned to my account two days later.

First claass product. The only issue some people may have is it is quite different in operation to the earlier Humax recorder I have had. I have an ealier Model of Humax connected to my home network and I can play programes recorded on this box from this new Humax

Having owned a previous Humax model of PVR I decided to replace it with the current one after it had failed after many years of good service. Overall, I would say that this recorder is okay but it does seem to have issues that could have been dealt with in the manual, for example, if you select the standard definition of BBC1, 2 or Channel 5 the PVR will switch to that channel and display an onscreen prompt to press the 'okay' button to move to its HD equivalent yet this does not happen on ITV or Channel 4. I presumed that this was a fault but upon contacting Humax was told that this is because ITV and Channel 4 do not send the necessary information in their transmission for this prompt to be displayed. It would have made sense to explain this in the manual. The next issue was I discovered was that when selecting 'On Demand' you are presented with subcategories such as Sport, All, Comedy, etc and more. If you move to a subcategory the screen is then supposed to be populated with thumbnails of programmes to choose from. For some reason this does not work when selecting 'All' and a message is always displayed saying that 'It is not available at the moment'. Switch then to any other category and they will populate and then if you switch back to 'All' it will then populate. This means that every time you wish to look at 'All' you have to go to another category first and then return to it to get it to display anything. This was something that customers services tell me they were not aware of until I pointed it out and they tested one themselves and confirmed that this was correct. This is like having to select Channel 4 before you can get BBC 1 and I cannot understand why this was not ironed out during the model's development stage. The most annoying thing occurs when you have recorded a more than one episode of a programme and decide to watch it. Having selected the programme you want, it automatically defaults to 'Play this recording' and highlights the most recent recording rather than the oldest. Now, why would you want to see the most recent programme in a series rather than the oldest one you have recorded? It just doesn't make sense. As a result, you have to come out of the newest episode, select the oldest and then tell it to play. Again, how come nobody pointed out that this was illogical when it was being developed? I have only owned this recorder for a month and have not yet explored all of its functions. I would say that this recorder is okay but there are niggling issues that irritate when you are learning your way around it, issued that should have been addressed prior to production.
