I used it straight out of the box...I smeared a little vegetable oil on the base before heating as recommended in the instructions and put it into the oven from cold. After 30 minutes pre-heating I removed it from the oven and put a 750 gram sourdough loaf into the base. I slashed the top crust of the loaf with a lame and gave the loaf a quick misting of water, then on with the dome and into the oven for 45 minutes at 220 degrees C. I removed the dome after 35 minutes to let the loaf finish browning. What a result! I got terrific oven spring and the loaf was a beautiful golden brown in colour. The crust was chewy with a lovely crisp "edge" to it. The crumb was open-textured, chewy and slightly moist. I will try to take a picture of the next loaf and send it in. All in all, a great bit of kit.
