“You need to double the amount to get the ginger kick - so 50ml rather than the 25ml advertised, plus smell and taste of vinegar still overpowering and ruins the experience - even when adding lots of ice and citrus , as advised. It gives you heart burn due to the vinegar.
The menu included is a nice touch.
Disappointing for the price. 10 drinks maximum out of a bottle that costs £30 (with postage), if you like a strong taste/kick.
The new bottle design makes it feel cheap.
I had high hopes after reading the reviews, but for the price, sadly disappointed. I’d achieve the same result making my own ginger shot and adding ice and soda water - plus way cheaper.

Hi Viv, sorry to hear that you wont be purchasing from us again. We only use natural sugars (no sweeteners or gum etc) and believe our honey in ginger, or demerara in marmalade contribute hugely to the overall flavour and texture. As we're all about flavour, we're really particular in the ingredients we choose, in search of making a balanced, bold and immensly satisfying drink, that just happens to be non-alc. while it does add some sugar, our drinks are typically less than a quarter of alcoholic drinks.

Hi Tina - Thank you for taking the time to review. Sorry to hear you are disappointed in regards to ordering our Marmalade Switchel. Our Marmalade Switchel is a limited edition product, but we are bringing it back! We produce it annually in the Seville Orange season (so are starting now on the next production) and are due to release 2024 Marmalade in June.
Hi Pat - thank you for taking the time to review. The vinegar tends to be stronger as an aroma than taste. So tips for reducing the aroma to get optimum balance:
- lots of ice in the glass
- fresh citrus garnish (eg slice of orange)
That helps to balance the vinegar aroma.
You could also look to use less, approx 15ml plus a mixer like tonic, ginger ale or alcohol-free sparkling wine. The Switchel will be more subtle but will help to bring extra bite and complexity to the mixers. And if that’s how you like it, your mother root will last twice as long!
