I found the TEFL Level 5 course an excellent course to prepare me for teaching ESL. It was very well planned and covered a broad range of topics and ample testing opportunities. The company's shortcomings were long response times and closing access to the course information after completion, meaning access to job assistance and content was cut off.

I completed the 168 hours combined TEFL course in May 2022 and found that the course materials are sufficient for preparing you as a new ESL teacher. There are lots of course materials to sip through and course materials are relevant to the course aim. The course materials cover most ESL language teaching areas - Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening. End-of-Unit tests are relevant to the Unit contents and achieve their aims for new students, regardless of their English level. The assignments are quite long but very helpful to prepare you as a new ESL teacher. However, if you follow the given instructions in the assignments, you will be fine. The difficulty level of the 3-assignments is of course below the University level. So, if you are a University grad, you are good to go. I feel more confident being a new ESL teacher after completing this course. The 20-hour in-class teaching practice portion of this course will even boost your confidence as a new ESL teacher. In a nutshell, I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to be an ESL teacher.

Although my learning journey with Tefl Academy was longer than I had planned due to personal and health reasons, I managed to complete and pass the course. The Units are easy to work through and the quizzes at the end test whether you have understood the content of the units. The assignments can take some time to complete. However, if you work hard, dedicate your time wisely to the assignments and follow the instructions given, then you can complete them successfully. I would recommend Tefl Academy to anyone interested in pursuing a career in teaching English as a foreign language. There is always support available and the feedback given by tutors is valuable.

I took the Level 5 TEFL Course, and it was very comprehensive. The material was interesting and well-presented. The assignments were challenging but useful. My only complaint is that there is no add-on for teaching practice with actual students (only with other TEFL learners). I would definitely recommend this course. Well worth the price.

Although I thoroughly enjoyed the course I was not completely happy with the tutor marking and feedback of Assignments A and B. I feel it was negative marking and not giving credit to the assignments as a whole entity thus withholding a 'merit' pass. The tutor of Assignment C however asked me to resubmit with a minor suggested change and I was awarded a 'merit' pass.

On the completion of my level 3 certificate, I just want to say what a great and supportive network to joi. The overall structure and modules are taught in detail, to understand each aspect in the course. Also how continuous examples, videos and scenarios are demonstrated to provide you with hands on approaches, methodologies and skills to apply in classrooms. Thank you TEFL academy.

I completed the Level 5 TEFL course through the TEFL Academy. The course in my opinion is well structured with material that is relevant and professionally presented. Assignments and other activities are related to the course material and reflect the goals of the course, to prepare student teachers with the basics required to enter the TEFL industry.

I am very satisfied with the TEFL certificate course at the TEFL Academy. The only thing I will add is perhaps live online lessons, so there is an exchange with a teacher, even if it is only a few times.

I thoroughly enjoyed completing the course and building on my knowledge of teaching English. Creating the assessments was enjoyable and the course information was accessible too. However, I would say that the assessments take up a lot more time and effort than I initially anticipated, and I ended up having to pay to extend the course for a month.

Taking the TEFL level 5 online course was a great decision, I could log in to my dashboard at any time that I want, that gave me the opportunity to study at my own pace, the materials on the course were fun and interesting most of the time, the assignments were kind of challenging but entertaining and useful. I recommend the course for people that likes to study at their own pace and time.

Very interesting content and assignments. I feel some of the content could sometimes be presented in a more engaging way, rather than us having to read through long texts.

I set out from day one, positive about doing a TEFL Course (even though I chose the 168 hours) well within the six months. Unfortunately I got very ill and for most of October last year I was unable to work on the course. After almost a six weeks’ absence, I basically started all over again, and this is when my stress levels went through the roof as I couldn’t always find what I was wanting to review before moving on (considering much of this terminology is specific to TEFL and new to me). I could not remember all the information straight away - HAD TO REVISE often) and had to wade through pages to find the right place. So if there is a criticism from my side, it has to do with the platform not being user friendly enough. I had to always go back to a specific unit and part, searching and opening lots of pages before finding what I was looking for. Busy students (and working against the six months’ clock) need keyword access to aid revision and ease of study. I also stressed to get through the work to reach the first assignment. Again, more transparency right at the start would’ve been useful. If I knew what I was getting for an assignment, I could’ve searched and kept material which would’ve been useful for the assignment throughout - e.g. images - which would’ve been a great timesaver. Also, one’s mind will start the process of collecting and processing specific information - storing it for an assignment - well in advance, which imo keeps the mind calm for full action once the required material for a specific assignment has been covered. As far as feedback from lecturers is concerned, I found their comments fair and helpful, and done well within the eight days suggested for a return of an assignment. - (student Margaretha Botha nee Menichini)
