“Little Wharf in Bleadon was amazing cosy clean & well equipped. .. there were some lovely walks for my dog & she enjoyed walking & paddling on the sandy beaches.”
“Lovely cosy and comfy cottage with everything you need for a relaxing break. The area is quiet, there are seaviews from many of the windows. You can go on coastal walks, the Portland Bill lighthouse is a short walk away. We were made to feel very welcome by Brad, and the fruit, drinks and cakes were much appreciated.”
“Not so good as the adjacent cottage we previously stayed,no complimentary logs for the burner no freezer in fridge no clients review book felt a little dissatisfying. Regards Mr and Mrs L A Russell”
“Easy to navigate website. Lots of choice in all regions. Competetive prices. Great experience. Sykes is a site i've previously used with no issues at all and one i trust.”
“Our stay in the cottage was very welcoming, comfortable, warm and had everything we could have wanted. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of walking/ cycling trails and only a short distance from lovely pubs and shops.”
“Excellent site, easy to use. Prices very competitive. Accommodation was accurately described with plenty of useful information prior to trip away.
Definitely use site again. Have booked another cottage!”
“Very easily booked on Sykes site. Angel Cottage in Skipton was ideally situated near the Rail station for our looked forward trip on the Settle/Carlisle line. The cottage had everything we needed & was warm & comfortable. Plenty of places to eat in Skipton which is well worth leaving a full day to explore.”
“A great location and the caretaker was very helpful . We were suprised that there was only seating for 4 in each of the living rooms , given that the accomodation sleeps 8.”
“We've stayed at some lovely NTS cottages, but, for us, this was the best. Beautiful location, lovely cottage. OK, the front could do with a coat of paint - but it does get all the weather straight from the sea. One review I read said that the dials on the cooker had lost their numbers. Yes, they have, but someone has carefully written their equivalent in the book of instructions so there was no problem. When we arrived the cottage was very warm and cosy. It stayed like that all the time we were there. One night there was a storm and torrential wind and rain - we were snug and cosy - but some rain did penetrate the dining room window. We put a towel there so that the carpet didn't get wet. It was only when we had the extreme weather.
Our German Shepherd loved the private beach and the garden proved to be dog secure for her (a small dog could perhaps have wriggled out.) Some lovely walks in the area, across the sands or inland. Can't wait to go again - loved it.”
“Excellent service from Sykes, very easy to book and all required information supplied before deparature.
We were delighted with Abbey View Cottage and its location within easy reach of Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby. It is ideal for two people + dog, with lots of walks for our dog as well as the dog field. In fact everywhere was very dog friendly. 2 very nice pubs within about a mile. The owners are friendly and very helpful with local information and recommendations on restaurants etc. We would definitely book again and have already recommended the cottage to another couple who have a dog.”
“Sykes Cottages have a good choice of cottages in all areas of the UK. However, if you need to contact them their customer service doesn't exist. Nobody answers the phone and you have to rely on e-mails. This is not good enough. This only happened after they were bought by a faceless company interested only in profits at the expense of the customer.”
“Have used Sykes Cottage's many times and have always had a positive experience,from initial booking , communication before the holiday and then having the holidays. Will definitely use Sykes in future .”
“We were 6 adults had a good time. A walking base so like other reviewers glad of the porch/boot room and plenty of coat hooks and dried wet coats in kitchen. Central heating and hot water ample for us all to shower when requires. Cooked a roast on the Sunday. Kitchen was equipped with lots of pans etc and Royal Worcester Evesham crockery serving dishes. However could have been better supplied with foil and cleaning products. Pleased we had a dishwasher. Agree with other reviewers that overall it's a little tired rather than luxurious, but when arriving home wet and muddy didn't need anything more really. 6 guys all well travelled and the following is our collated comments:
Driveway
Drive steep and only surfaced with loose chippings be aware if arriving in dark especially in a small car laden with luggage and passengers. My Renault clio struggled to get up wouldnt want to do it in wintry conditions.
Bedrooms
* thick duvet 13 tog which was too hot on first night. We would have preferred lighter weight duvet with some blankets to make warmer on cold nights.
master bedroom bathroom
* no bracket to put down soap or shower gel bottle (older guests cannot bend to pick up from floor).
main bathroom
* no way to shut off water coming out bath taps when also using shower hose (reported by previous reviewers).
* the wooden shelf unit as in the picture would have been helpful for 4 adults to store toilet bags.
lounge
dog hairs behind cushions
Kitchen
* no batteries in any of the clocks
* No bulb in fridge light
* No bulb in extracor fan hood hard to see what's cooking on hob
* no handtowel or tea towels just one multi-purpose towel in kitchen.
* no foil or flingfilm
* no wash up sponge scourer or brush just one jay cloth.
* no cafetiere or coffee machine!!! fortunately one of us had a portable Nespresso
* only one mug each
* didnt seem to be any recycling.
Directions to property incorrect
* Said to turn right off the A6 coming out of Bakewell whereas it is a left turn. It would be a right turn off the B5055 on to Sheldon Lane if you come out of Bakewell up the hill past the church.”
