“No information about oven, and recycling/rubbish collection times. Lge.bedrom window catch not working. Fire risk assessement needed , only one exit. We noted that the oven had been mentioned in a Sept.25 review. 3 monthe before our arrival. Insufficient hand towels, ( only one provided )”
“This place is absolutely lovely, spotlessly clean and great value for money. We stayed for four nights over New Year with two other couples and really enjoyed spending NYE there. We chose not to eat out so we could relax and fully enjoy the cottage, especially as we’d already spent quite a bit on the accommodation.
The only downside was the size of the fridge/freezer. For a group of six staying several days, it was a little small, and we struggled to store all the food we’d brought, ending up leaving some items outside due to the cold. A larger fridge/freezer would definitely make it more convenient for larger groups. Additionally, one couple slept in single beds, which was fine, though we would have preferred all
Because of these issues, we gave 4 stars, but it would have been a clear 5-star stay if the fridge/freezer were larger and all beds were doubles. Overall, we loved the place and would definitely stay here again.”
“We booked for New Year and have immediately re-booked for summer!
Gorgeous bungalow, short walk from the town centre. Everything you need is close at hand. Absolutely loved our time there.”
“The house advertised was just as we wanted so we enquired about staying an extra night. We had to chase Sykes 3 times for an answer, via customer services, which was disappointing and it was a good job our enquiry wasn’t of an urgent matter”
“We stayed at the cottage over Christmas and it was fantastic. The owners had decorated it and the whilst the bedrooms are small the downstairs with the extension is very comfortable and everything you need for a great break is there. There are 3 pubs that are within easy walking distance and it also doesn't take long to walk into Ironbridge. Would also recommend a visit to the Jackfield Tile Museum , which is just 30 seconds walk above the cottage and you can park up there if you don't fancy driving down the lane to the cottage.”
“Cottage rented was lovely, also warm. However communication with Sykes Cottages was worse than useless, they did not respond to my request, just kept asking the same questions which I had already answered, instead.”
“The house is beautiful and we had a fabulous time. THe house had everything you needed, Rhian and James had thought of everything to make our stay so easy. We will definetly be looking to go again. Thank you”
“The lodge we stayed in was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed for a great stay. I feel the communication from Sykes cottages could be improved as previously I had emailed and rung White Cross Bay where we stayed and I had no response on the phone and although Sykes cottages responded to my emails it wasn’t with clear information about what I had actually asked. When we arrived 30th December there were major issues with the national grid in the Lake District which was out of their control and was told the park may have to close and they would make a decision shortly however as the electric was intermittent we took a chance and stayed and so glad we did as all the electricity stayed on and was fine. The lodge was stunning and extremely comfortable and would definitely stay again. The next day the passes for the facilities was free because of all the upheaval the day before and the lads enjoyed the pool, sauna, jaccuzi and steam room. Signage could be better as we spent a while looking h for our lodge. Would recommend White Cross Bay and the lodge 32 Grasmere.”
“A very cosy and comfortable cottage. Beautifully decorated and furnished. Very convenient location and also really quiet. Good pub close by serving nice food. Owners were very helpful and communicated promptly.”
“Our New year stay at Hall farm cottage was perfect. We wanted a quiet one with the dog, some winter walks and cosy evenings.
We have stayed at the cottage before and we were just as pleased this time.
The cottage has everything you need and is so cosy & comfortable.
We will hope to visit again”
“The Engine Shed is a fabulous place to stay. Well appointed, very clean and ideal for access to the centre of Shrewsbury on foot.
3 different pubs to visit within around 250 metres (not intrusive to the property so do not worry about their proximity).
Very peaceful and quiet neighbourhood.
Highly recommend staying here.”
“The cottage is warm and welcoming with comfortable furniture and beds. The view from the front windows down to the bay is outstanding and the welcome pack was generous. However, we did have a problem when we arrived with the cottage not having been serviced. Bedlinen and towels were not taken away and beds not made. The problem was quickly solved after a phone call to the emergency phone number.
Some small changes can make the cottage even better. More ovenproof dishes would be useful. A socket in the kitchen didn’t work so we had to move the microwave to a socket which worked.
I would warn elderly people with mobility problems and families with young children that the stairs are steep and the top treads mean that coming out of the bathroom there is a step straight down the stairs.”
“The cottage and the location was amazing, with plenty of space for 8 people and 3 dogs. Under floor heating was brilliant and the games room for our lads was very good.
Couple things let the cottage down, cleanliness of the property wasn't brilliant, little bit grubby in places- needs a deep clean. Out side patio lights not working so had to go out side at night using flash lights when taking dogs. TVs in bedrooms- not all working..
All in all tho we had a fantastic time with family and would consider a return in the future”
“Fantastic stay in a beautiful cottage! We had a wonderful time, everything was perfect! The Christmas Decorations & welcome hamper were such a treat! The photos of the cottage really don’t to it justice! It’s so spacious. Plenty of room for 8 adults. The 2 living rooms & 2 dining rooms offered so much versatility. We enjoyed experimenting with Aga cooking but we glad of the conventional oven as back up! There is a cafetière for coffees. Bath & hand towels provided but take your own beach towels. Hosts were quick to reply with answers to any questions. 1 min walk to the Steam Railway. Very nice pub in the village. We had a brilliant New Year, I bet it’s even more beautiful in the summer!”
“Used Sykes at least once a year since Covid and we’ve always had a great time in some great locations and great cottages. High standard and well equipped- mind, I think you do pay for what you get 😉.
Photo shows the latest apartment on Whitby - beautiful.”
