Good points
Beautiful village,Good pub ,fantastic 'Old Forge cafe, and well stocked local shop.Well placed for all the places we wanted to visit (Winchester,Portsmouth,Chichester, Southsea etc) good country roads which are easily navigated.
The owner (Lindy) makes you feel very much at home and is a mind of information about the local area.A very kind host. The bed is wonderfully comfortable , the internet virtually impossible and mobile phone hit and miss,however the village is in the process of fibre optic internet which will soon be finished. My wife and I found it quite refreshing to be out of range for the internet and mobile phone links!
Bad points
The only true bad point was the two steep flights of stairs in the folly with the bedroom at the top and the toilet at the bottom of the stairs .We were both on the wrong side of 70 years old and found the trek to the loo in the middle of the night quite trying! If you are 60 and below there should be no issues!
Finally for me was lying in bed at 2am watching the moon and stars fly by with the owls hooting and the church ring out the time on the hour.
Would I go back , yes , after having both my knees replaced!”
“Had a lovely week (apart from the weather), a beautiful cottage, well equipped and really comfortable (especially the bed), a peaceful outside seating area. A fabulous welcome pack of local goodies, plenty of tea, coffee and sugar also provided. Can recommend Dylan’s restaurant, which is the other side of Barmouth.”

“This was our first time at Lake Windermere, we stayed for a full week at the Black dog lodge and we had a fantastic time. The lodge itself was modern, clean and only a couple of hundred yards from the lake itself. Also it was great to have the hot tub to relax after a day out.
We would definitely come back again in the near future. Thanks again.”

“Mostly I find the cottage I'm looking for and have used Sykes Cottages for many years. No problems what so ever.
I would not consider Holiday cottages .com has they ask for a £200 cover fee, returnable if theirs no breakages etc. Thing is, if I was to book many months in advance they will be making plenty of interest. So I'll stick with Sykes thank you.”
