My son, Cam, has just returned from an incredible 6 months in Melbourne, followed by travelling in New Zealand and Australia. He has loved every minute. Travelling to the other side of the world was more daunting for us as parents than for Cam, but having the knowledge that there was a 'mum' on the ground in Australia made such a difference. The social events were amazing - I don't think we had appreciated just how many and how brilliant these would be - the Grand Prix, Australian Open, Ashes tickets, Melbourne Cup and AFL to name just some of them. These really helped to build the friendships in the group and he has made some really wonderful friends in these six months. Cam worked as a tennis coach whist there - for an academy and for a local school. Being able to work gave him a great experience of truly living in the city - Melbourne is such a great place to be and really easy to travel around. He enjoyed working in the coaching team and travelled with his team at weekends to play matches. He fell in love with the Australian beaches so looked for ways to head to these when he could - hiring a car and heading to the Great Ocean Road was another great weekend trip. The support team around Sport Lived is fantastic - Kathy was there to help get them started with banks and paperwork - and has the perfect balance of giving them independence but reminding them to get things done so they can be paid! The UK support from Elaine and Ian was great - all questions answered and advice offered, making the process really smooth. We would highly recommend the programme to anyone who is ready for an adventure in a really supportive environment with guaranteed friends and an amazing country to explore.

My six months in Melbourne with Sport Lived was truly the experience of a lifetime. I took part in a full six-month cricket season, playing for Brighton Cricket Club, and I loved every aspect of the trip. The atmosphere at the club was incredible—we felt like one big family. Whether it was team selection dinners every Thursday after training or heading for a dip at Brighton Beach after a match, there was always a strong team spirit. Sport Lived did an excellent job of matching me with a cricket club that suited my ability, as well as introducing me to such a great group of lads. Off the pitch, the frequent social events organised by Kathy were a highlight. They brought everyone in the apartments together, even with our busy schedules. These events ranged from major sporting occasions like the Boxing Day Test, the Australian Open, and the Formula 1 Grand Prix, to more relaxed activities such as sunset kayaking and surfing lessons. It really allowed us to embrace the true Australian lifestyle. The whole gap year experience was made so easy thanks to Sport Lived. Living with so many people of a similar age made moving away from home much more comfortable and helped me form friendships that will last a lifetime. Melbourne itself was an amazing city to be based in, offering a great mix of culture, sport, and easy transport. I absolutely loved my time in Melbourne, and much of that is thanks to the effort and support from everyone at Sport Lived. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone looking to play their sport in a completely new and exciting environment.

Our son Dexter has just returned from six months playing cricket in Melbourne through Sport Lived. From a parent’s perspective, we have been very impressed with all the support he received from the Sport Lived team and we thoroughly recommend the programme. From the time Ian spent up front getting to know Dexter as a cricketer to match him to an appropriate club; to the planning and advice from Elaine ahead of the trip; and last but by no means least, from Kathy, as surrogate mum, organiser, social planner (to name but a few of the many roles she covers on the ground in Melbourne). From advice on travel and sports insurance, to setting up bank details and finding work, the Sport Lived team are there to help. The accommodation is of a good standard and great location, with easy access into the city and the wider area. The time taken to match each individual to the right club works well. Dexter loved being part of Brighton Cricket Club, especially the quality of the training and the teams, and the friendliness of the club members and their families. The calendar of social events arranged by Kathy was incredible, covering all the main Melbourne sporting highlights (Melbourne Cup, Test Match cricket, Melbourne Tennis Open, Grand Prix, AFL match), plus many fun group activities (surf lessons, kayaking, island penguin visit) as well as regular local socials. It’s this combination of sport, Melbourne experiences and local support which makes Sport Lived such a unique programme, creating memories to last a lifetime and fostering lifelong friendships.

Jacob has just spent a fantastic 6 months with Sandringham athletics club through Sport Lived. The whole experience has been fabulous - a brilliant gap year. The UK team of Ian and Elaine were very helpful, and Kathy in Melbourne was a constant and excellent support for the young people throughout the placement. The accommodation worked well, great flats, nice other kids doing the same thing - good to have a variety of ages. Jacob was 17 initially so had to leave the country to register for a work visa when he turned 18 - great excuse to meet him in Bali midway through! The weekly socials were a highlight - Kathy did a great job and they got to do plenty of wonderful trips/ days out/ adventures. Jacob used his sport to structure a fun gap year and explore a new city. However thanks to Kathy going above and beyond in supporting him with his athletics placement, his discus performance has taken off. Jacob has had incredible training through coach Michael, and alongside Dale, plus plenty of friendly and elite/ visiting elite throwers (eg current Olympic gold medallists). Jacob's looking forward to competing in the Australian Nationals next weekend in Brisbane. A big thank you to Sport Lived, we can't recommend it highly enough. Jacob has loved his time in Melbourne.

I was part of a 4 month netball programme with Sport Lived and it was honestly one of the best experiences. The two netball clubs I was part of were super friendly and welcoming and one club in particular put on some brilliant social events alongside playing a great standard of netball. I’ve made some lifelong friends through the club who I know I’ll keep in touch with. Sport Lived ran some amazing social events too which I really enjoyed - it was a great time to get to know everyone else on the programme. Melbourne was the perfect city to be based in - there was culture, sport, art and the city itself was so much fun to explore. The location of our accommodation was great as it was super close to public transport and shops. The whole experience was made easier by Sport Lived who supported me both before I left, with Ian and Elaine providing lots of useful information, and while I was in Melbourne with Kathy being super helpful and answering any questions I had. Overall I had an incredible time and would definitely recommend Sport Lived to anyone who is looking to play sport abroad!

I took part in a 6 month football programme with SportLived, and absolutely loved it. The club I was playing with was a fantastic club, not just on the pitch but off it as well, we had regular social events which I thoroughly enjoyed and really made me feel part of the club, particularly as I was injured for most of the season. I also loved all the social events I took part in through SportLived with my other flatmates. The accommodation was great both in terms of quality and the location of it, and living with other SportLived participants was very fun. Kathy was excellent and always helped me out whenever I needed it. I have made memories for life and met amazing people that I will keep in contact with. I would highly recommend SportLived to anyone who wants to experience playing/coaching sports abroad!

I took part in a 3-month cricket program with Sport Lived, playing for South Yarra Cricket Club, and had an incredible experience. I loved every aspect of my time in Melbourne — not just the cricket, but also the social side, both with my Sport Lived flatmates and at the club itself. The accommodation was excellent, both in terms of quality and location. Kathy was also extremely helpful and responsive to all our needs and requests. I’d highly recommend Sport Lived to anyone considering a sports experience abroad.

Our 21 year old son went to Melbourne with Sportlived. This was between finishing university and starting work. He was a keen rower and was very excited about being able to devote lots of time to develop his sport. He had lots of support prior to going and we felt confident that he would have support once there. Indeed, the member of staff based in Melbourne worked in their accommodation block and knew each one of the sportlived residents personally. She organised lots of events to help them to get to know each other as well as getting them tickets to big sporting events taking place in Melbourne - tennis, cricket, F1, and horse racing international tournaments. Joe’s was introduced to Mercantile Rowing Club which is a high performance club where he rowed as a «clubbie» (non high performance squad). Here he received coaching from former elite athletes and given opportunity to follow similar training programme to the elite squad. Joe’s accommodation was good and very well located. He lived in a 3 bedroom flat with 5 other Sportlived residents and shared a room with another male rower. They all self catered and the flat was cleaned twice a week. He was happy with living conditions.

Ed went to Melbourne to row with Sport Lived. The experience was superb. Elaine in the UK made booking so very easy. Kathy in Oz settled them in, helped and organised all the vital admin. Accommodation was excellent. Ed was matched to Mercantile rowing club and loved his time there- social, fun and high quality rowing. He progressed to the elite crew and rowed in Nat Champs in Tasmania. Ed made great friends, got a job and supported himself whilst there. He went on and travelled in Thailand after the 6m programme. Kathy was always available if needed and Ed was fond of her. Would recommend time and time again. Also loads of included sports events in the price.

Ian, Elaine and Kathy were amazing and came up trumps when offering us a place on the Sports Lived programme at very short notice. Thank you. Social events were great, Kathy was always very helpful and supportive. Kayaking on the Yarra was definitely a highlight. Best location as plenty going on and public transport access very easy. Would have no hesitation in recommending this programme.

Spending six months in Melbourne with SportLived was an amazing experience. Playing cricket with Richmond Cricket Club was fantastic and included weekly team meals that helped me get to know my teammates and learn about Aussie culture. The in-country support from SportLived was great, with regular catch-ups that made settling in easy. Living with like-minded people in shared accommodation was great fun, making new friends and enjoying our spare time together. The gym facilities were excellent and very close by. Beyond cricket, I had the opportunity to try many new activities such as Rowing, Muay Thai and Aussie footy, and attended major events like the Australian Open and International Cricket matches. The social events organised by SportLived were some of my highlights whilst in Melbourne. SportLived’s support throughout my stay made the experience even more enjoyable. This programme gave me so many memories, skills, and lasting friendships. It was a great all-around experience and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone!

Thank you Sport Lived for a fantastic gap year experience. Having researched a number of options, the sports program offered our son everything he wanted. From our initial enquiries, through to pre-trip support and to do lists, the Sport Lived team were fantastic. On arrival, Kathy and Melbourne Unicorns Rugby Club made him so welcome and we can’t thank both enough for the support and opportunities he had during his stay. Melbourne is a great city to spend time in, especially if you love sport! Jack attended the F1 Grand Prix on his first weekend in Melbourne, enjoyed many visits to the MCG for AFL games and a packed John Cain Arena for SSN netball. Prahran With welcome drinks, socials and trips out of the city he has so many great memories. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

My son has recently returned from Melbourne playing hockey at MCC. He was only able to do a half season to fit between 1st & 2nd year university term dates. We were initially a little hesitant due to cost factor but the Sport Lived UK team (Elaine & Ian) were great with the pre-planning, lots of calls & helped set up a programme that worked for him. Going with Sport Lived rather than independently meant we knew he would be looked after from Day 1. He was picked up from the Airport & taken straight out to dinner to meet everyone & was straight into hockey training the next day. Kathy was a real support in Melbourne sorting banks, gym pass, travel cards etc as well as some great social & sightseeing events for them. Accommodation at Quest sounded fantastic & brilliant to share with other like-minded people. Karen & Matt from Quest were also so supportive & welcoming and helped him out so much. Going with Sport Lived was certainly the best choice for him & he now wants to return to do a full season! Thank you team Sport Lived!

We did some searching before landing on SportLived for a sporting gap year programme, and we are glad we did. Joshua has had the experience of a lifetime and there were no logistic problems at all. This speaks volumes about the organisation and approach of the UK and Melbourne based team. The accommodation and club were ideal and I guess the best evidence is that Joshua wants to go back !

Sport Lived has been an excellent programme for our son. He has loved it all, from the cricket club he was introduced to, the accommodation, the city, the new friends he has made and the whole experience. As parents, we have loved the fact that Kathy, Elaine and all the team were there to help us get sorted before he went and helped him out while he was in Melbourne. Luckily for us, everything went really well, but it was great to know there was a friendly reliable person to help if something went wrong. Thanks Sport Lived, it's been a blast x

We just wanted to say a huge thankyou for all you do for the young men and women who come out to Australia on a Sport Lived Programme. From our son Callum's very first conversation with Ian to all of the pre-trip organisation with Elaine Stansbury and then Kathy Young on the ground in Melbourne, we were massively impressed with your company. Callum had the time of his life living in Melbourne and playing with South Yarra CC who made him so welcome! It made all the difference in the world to us as parents knowing that there is someone local keeping an eye on things as well as organising some fantastic events. We would have no hesitation in recommending Sport Lived to any young person looking for an adventure during their gap year! Rob & Caroline

Our Son Hugh has just finished 6 months playing cricket with Malvern Cricket Club with Sport Lived. From start to finish we could not fault Sport Lived and the team, from initial contact with Ian and Elaine in the UK to Kathy in Melbourne. They organised everything from the accommodation, Cricket Club and playing kit, SIM cards, Medicare, bank accounts, and transport to and from the airport. Hugh loved playing with Malvern and got on particularly well with the members of the club and enjoyed many social events with them as well as some great cricket. Quest Prahan accommodation was very nice, in a great central location and Hugh enjoyed living with all of the other Sport Lived guys. Kathy was fabulous, the boys loved her and she organised some great trips out as well as tickets to the Boxing Day test, Melbourne Cup, and Melbourne Open. She also helped him find work locally through her many contacts which he really enjoyed too. We cannot recommend Sport Lived and the entire team more highly, it has been a brilliant gap year experience for Hugh in a fantastic city. He has made lifelong friends and memories and it has set him up ready for Uni in September.

Playing rugby in Melbourne was the best decision I ever made! The 4 months I was there felt like 4 weeks and I wish I was still there now. Kathy, Ian and Elaine were amazing the entire time. They organised lots of activities such as the F1 and surfing. The rugby was of a very good standard and the colts side were a good laugh and a great group of lads. If I was to go back I would travel more but I highly recommend Byron Bay for all those who have never been to Australia before. Thanks to all that made the trip so memorable.
