“We had an absolutely wonderful experience volunteering with the turtle conservation programme in Kefalonia. It was one of the highlights of our holiday and something we will remember for a very long time. The whole experience was incredibly well organised, welcoming and genuinely meaningful. The volunteers were knowledgeable, passionate and generous with their time, and they made us feel part of the conservation work rather than simply observers. We learned so much about Kefalonia’s sea turtles, their nesting behaviour, the challenges they face and the practical work being done to protect them. For our children, it was particularly special. They were able to experience conservation in a very real and hands-on way, while also having enormous fun. Watching them become so interested in the turtles, the beaches and the wider marine environment was wonderful. It gave them a connection to wildlife and conservation that no classroom lesson could quite replicate. There was also something magical about being out on the beaches of Kefalonia, surrounded by beautiful scenery, knowing that the work we were doing was helping to protect these extraordinary animals. The combination of nature, learning, adventure and a lovely sense of community made the experience truly memorable. We came away with a much deeper appreciation of sea turtles and of the dedication required to protect them. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to families and anyone visiting Kefalonia who wants to do something meaningful, interesting and a little different during their holiday. An unforgettable experience and a huge thank you to everyone involved.”

“It was SOOOOO much fun!!! The staff was fantstic and everyone was super nice and friendly. The living accomidation was great, but it was very hot during the day. They had extra bug nets and red-lights, a washing machine, vollyball net, hammocks, flippers and scuba equipment, activity nights, cats, pots pans, air fryers, fridges and freezers, and so many fruit treets on the property (blackberries, pomegranates, grapes, oranges, limes, lemmons, figs) Apparently the shifts change seasonally, but when I was volenttering we had 5 types of shifts. Morning Servays: biking to a 3-5 beaches around 5:30-6:10 and walking them to look for turtle nesting tracks, or baby that have hatched (and we found a lot of tracks) where you would record and try to mark and find where the nests were (to protect and relocate them if need be) or help babies that didn't quite make it to sea these shifte could be 2 hours or last till 11 if you found a lot. Harbor servay: where you were driven to the city to walk a long the harb for two sets of 50 minutes recording feedinga and social interactions of turtles (along with trying to stop tourist from feeding them fish and answering questions) they also give you some time to shop after or you can stay in town and taxi back. Public Awareness: where you walk or bike to the beach at 7 (5-10 min) and set up a sign where some people will come and ask you questions for an hour. Data entry where you enter all the info collected by volunteers in a computer. it was very easy and took about 30 ish minutes. Hatch and Resuce: where you sleep on a beach for the night and build a box around 1 or two nest that may hatch that evening. Every hour someone in the group needs to wake up and check the nests to see if babies have hacted then you record it and resleas them to sea. There were also 2-3 optinal shifts that were fun and there if you wanted to do more. Over all I would highly recomend! A majority of the volenteers stayed for only two weeks and so a lot of the friends you make leave half way through if you sign up for four weeks, but it was so so much fun and you should so sign up!”

“From making the booking to the end of my sons stay communication was excellent, staff were really helpful & always responded to every email. The whole experience was excellent & they were all really looked after and had amazing experiences within the turtle experience itself. Would highly recommend and my son is talking about going again. Big thumbs up to all staff in all aspects. Thank you”

“I took part in the U18 Turtle and Marine Conservation Trip this summer it has been the highlight of my year so far. Not only do you get to meet so many new people that share the same passion for conservation as you but also get to have incredible experiences with wildlife. The Pod staff were excellent throughout the trip and I can’t thank them enough for making my time in Kefalonia so memorable!”

“My daughter had a fantastic experience on the 16-17 year old Kefalonia Turtle conservation project in July 2026. As it was her first independent trip overseas, it was really reassuring to get the updates and photos from the organisers. She came back with lots of stories about a wonderful week and a good understanding of the many issues facing turtles and ocean conservation (in addition to completing her Gold Duke of Edinburgh residential trip) Thank you- my son will hopefully also go to Kefalonia with Pod in 2 years time.”

“Very helpful when needing answers to questions, however the rooms we were told all had mosquito net hooks however this wasn’t the case so it would be helpful to be given the most accurate information. Other than that this organisation were very helpful and would use again.”

“Pod volunteer have been amazing from start to finish in helping me organise this memorable trip! This is my second time booking a trip through them, and they are great with sorting all the logistics out! In my two weeks at the Elephant and wildlife conservation project, I learnt so much about the ongoing human elephant conflict in Sri Lanka, and it was such an insightful experience. From the knowledgeable staff members at the project guiding us, to the other lovely volunteers, and the amazing ladies who cooked us meals, it was a trip to remember! One of my highlights was monitoring a group of elephants from a treehouse survey- such a surreal experience! I also loved how involved we were with the local community, working alongside farmers and schools to help both elephants and humans live and thrive safely together. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who made this possible, specifically Chandima and Devuni from SLWCS! I hope to return in the future!”

“This has been a fantastic experience for my daughter, she thoroughly enjoyed her time in Kefalonia. She gained invaluable experience to support both her residential and volunteering elements of her Gold DofE award and by participating in an 'in situ' project to support A Level Biology. On top of this she gained independence and resilience through solo travel, made lots of new friends and had lots of fun! The support and communidation from the team at Pod Volunteer was excellent so we had peace of mind that she was cared for during the entire week. Thank You.”

“Pod was such an amazing experience. All the other volunteers were so friendly and kind and the leaders were great. The volunteering work was enjoyable and there was lots of free time so making friends was very easy. However the tents are very basic.”
