“Subpar support and refuses to put you into touch with organization you are working with. Much cheaper to go directly through non profit you would be working with unless you need someone to hold your hand through every little step of the process.”

Hi Jacob, I’m very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the support for your placement as this is something we pride ourselves on. We visit projects regularly so that we can brief volunteers accurately and provide support throughout the process from initial application to preparing and packing for the trip, with a dedicated specialist managing each volunteer. We are then there if anything should go wrong, providing 24/7 support and assistance while volunteers are away. I’m surprised about your comment regarding cost as it is actually cheaper to go through Pod Volunteer than if you went directly to the team in Belize so I think you may have been misinformed here. In our position as a volunteer agency, we can’t disclose the project name on our website so we provide very detailed information before volunteers book so they can see if it’s the right project for them unlike most other organisations who ask for a deposit before giving all the information. We then give further details including the project name and contact details after a volunteer is confirmed. I hope that despite your concerns you got a lot out your time in Belize. “Pod supports at least one organization that claims to be dedicated to the welfare of animals, but in truth, still uses outdated and abusive techniques for handling their animals, thus going against their mission of ethical volunteering. In addition, Pod did a poor job of maintaining recent information on their websites, which gave volunteers misinformation as to the nature of their volunteering projects.”

Thank you for your review. We are extremely surprised and concerned by your comments. We support a carefully selected and vetted set of projects and visit them all regularly to monitor them. Animal welfare is extremely important to us and we are confident there are no abusive techniques used at any of the projects we work with, so it would be appreciated if you could give us more specific details about what you are referring to so that we can confirm / investigate this. One of the reasons we visit our projects regularly and have a close relationship with our partners is to ensure that we are giving accurate information to volunteers on the website and in our volunteering guides. We do however appreciate that things are constantly evolving, so we ask for feedback from volunteers before, during and after the placement, so if there is any information that is not up to date we can make updates and changes when needed.
