“We received one phone call from someone who was obviously the worse for wear and in a noisey pub saying that he worked out of Guisley. We politley put him off.”

“Sadly the information provided by Local Surveyors direct was somewhat inaccurate (£100 out on the cost) and also only gave details for two out of the many surveyors in Cambridge.”

Hi Elspeth, we are sorry to hear the information was out of date. We do ask the Surveyors we have listed to try to make sure the estimates they provide are as accurate as possible - but obviously this hasn't happened in this case. We will do our best to make sure the prices are updated.

“The idea is good, but I found the way the site works did not work for me. (1) The site appears to take the post code of the property and link to surveyors in that area. This is too simplistic. It is not necessarily the case that the best companies are adjacent to the property under consideration. This is especially true when the area is run down. (2) I expected to browse company details, not to be contacted as a tout for business by people. You should make it clearer that this will happen. I would not have used the site if I had realised. As a minimum, there should be an opt out option I would not use the site again.”

“The property I’m looking at is in County Durham; I put its postcode into the Local Surveyors Direct website. But I note that almost all responses I’ve received (bar one so far) come from the south west UK. I happen to live in Hampshire, I’m not sure if the web site has used my home address to select surveyors? It seems a dreadful waste of my time and the various surveyors who have emailed me if the website is using my home address for link them to my requirement; many people move house (and require a survey) to another part of the country.”

Hi Peter - Thanks for your comments. The website uses the postcode of the property you require the survey on - not your home address. We do have some Surveyors who cover the whole of the country, and if there are less than 8 local Surveyors in the area required, it will also give you the details of these National Firms. If Surveyors are listed under a postcode area -it is because they have chosen to be listed in that area, and so even if they may not be located very close to you- they will still be happy to give you a quote and carry out any work required. Hope that helps to clarify things.

“I entered my postcode which is Cobham, Surrey, and I received 5 names of companies based in London, Walton on Thames, Wokingham, Richmond & Winchester. There are 100's of architects in the Elmbridge borough yet your site does not list 1 Poor website - won't use or recommend. Henry - 07810692281”

Hi - I am sorry we were not able to provide more local Architects for you on this occasion. We are constantly updating the Suppliers we have listed, so hopefully this problem will not keep happening.

Hi Pippa, I am sorry that you felt bombarded after submitting an Enquiry. We pass on your contact details to the Suppliers you receive contact details for, as we feel this is the best way to make sure you get all the information you require in the shortest time. However, we appreciate that this does mean that you may have got phone calls from the Suppliers before you were ready to speak to them, and so please accept our apolgies for this.

“I have had only one reply to date. I have arranged to meet with him in some way from the Brighton and Hove planning next Monday. I feel this is a bit early to do a review”

Hi Neil, Thanks for your review. We send this request for a review to try and get some feedback on the operation of our website and any suggestions on things we can do to impove it. We agree that this is way too early to have any feedback on any Suppliers used - and we generally leave it about 3 weeks before asking for any feedback on our Suppliers. You should receive an email from us then asking for Feedback on any Suppliers you may have used, which we then put on to our website for other Customers to see. I hope this helps to clarify things for you
