“I asked for a list of local surveyors and selected a couple from the list. I then received several calls from Surveyors that I had not selected and whom I had never held of.
It is apparent that you send personal details for other third parties without permission - not good and probably contravenes the Data Protection Act.

Hi - I am sorry to hear that you received unwanted calls. When you request an estimate on our website, we give you the details of up to 8 Surveyors in your area, and we pass your information on to those Surveyors, so they can provide you with a more accurate quotation and further information. We do not pass your information on to any other third parties. We use your information to send you a Feedback request a few weeks after you ran the estimate - and then we do not use your information again. I hope this helps to reassure you.
“Hi there, when I used your website I was simply searching for a local surveyor. Once I had decided to get a quote and subsequently gave my details I was expecting an estimate based on my criteria. I was not expecting to be bombarded with telephone calls and emails from some 5 or 6 companies.
If you state on your website that this will happen then I missed it (arguably it wasn't made clear to me). I'm disappointed that this happened.”

Maybe it was just me, but I decided against following up any of the suggested contacts (many of which were barely local in any case and took days to arrive and even then only after I had sent a chaser email to the site) preferring instead to use my own resources to source a much more genuinely local structural engineer.”
“I have rated your service as poor because the wording was misleading. It said that I would be provided with a list of firms that I could contact, the implication being that I would have the chance to see which suited me best. In fact I was immediately contacted by several representatives of these firms who were under the impression that I was ready to consider starting the work. My actual position is that it will be a few weeks before I am ready to do so. I also learned that these firms have to pay you for this service and this seems quite unfair given the misleading wording.
In fairness, the list of firms you provided is likely to be useful and I probably will contact one or two of them. But I feel strongly that you should sort out the wording to make it quite clear that after submitting the form a user will be contacted by firms looking for immediate business.”
“Whilst very promising at the outset the first two tradesmen I contacted on your list said they were only taking on large jobs at this moment in time ( or were busy on a large job at the moment). This was despite me making it clear on your website that my requirements were for a 'small' job. I was left with the impression that these people merely 'ticked' the small jobs box so that they could 'cherry pick' those that they wanted. Needless to say I stopped after two 'dead ends'.”
“1 company was based in Ruislip which is to far away -they stated ! 2 other company never responded to my call after asking for name and number. The company that did arrive didn't know how to fix the problem-came the day after i phoned. i have phoned them back with my disappointment about the service which cost me £89 and is still not working. They cannot come back now until next week and i don't think they wanted to commit to it anyway.”

Since in logged onto your site last night i have been plagued by emails and phone calls.
In fact within 2 mins of logging off the site i had a phone call off someone not even on the site offering to undercut everyone.
It was only an initial enquiry just to get a rough idea for when we do need one, bur its now become a pain in the a**e.”
Hi Chris, sorry that the pricing was so different from the estimate. We do ask all of the Suppliers we have listed to try to give as close an approximation as possible of what their fees will be, but obviously this has not happened in this case. We will remind them of this fact.
