Awful charges for simple changes e.g. Fifty pounds for a private reg plate change!

Absolute rubbish. Took a policy out and realised there were two minor changes that were required before the policy was due to start. They had the date I passed my driving test wrong and although I have maximum no claims my previous insurer only shows this as 9 plus years I said that this also needs amending from 10 years to 9 this created a huge amount of confusion, the woman on the phone didn’t have a clue. This information was provided from a price comparison website. I will always double check the information which they pass over. But apart from these very small changes they totally re quoted the policy and it was almost £200 dearer. I cancelled the policy within 30 minutes of taking it out and they said I still have to pay £25 admin charges. Please avoid at all costs.

Took out insurance for my car with Debenhams who’s finance is delivered through Alden insurance via a company called Creations. No issues on the phone. Took it as it was one of the least expensive. Cancelled within the 14day cooling off period and had the excess we owed refunded back to us fairly promptly. What has happened worthy of the 1star review is that the first month’s direct debit was processed before we cancelled (I’m sure this is just a standard protocol, nothing dodgy). Said direct debit then came out of my account on 3rd January. Over £100. I have called Debenhams/Aldens four times since that date to chase up my refund of this money. Last week on 10th Jan I was told there was a back log over the festive period (third phonecall - getting frustrated now) so I was asked to be patient by a lady called Kim who assured me that the refund will be processed and that it should be with me by the latest of 16th January. Today is that day and no cash. I have called Debenhams/aldens again and been advised I need to speak to creation now to which through gritted teeth I obliged. Creation had no communication from Debenhams with instruction to perform a refund. Nothing. Now I have to wait another 3-5working days for my money to allegedly be returned to me via creation. This could be up to 20 days since my money was taken. It’s complete BS. I would not recommend Debenhams as an insurance broker if you paid me to. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Worst ever be careful....Charged £340 to cancel car insurance which is eight times higher what other companies charge and when asked for explanation all they said was Debenhams works differently...the only thing they work differently is in bad way and charge you more to make money out of you. All other companies charge under £50 to cancel car insurance.

After they cancelled my policy (within one week) due to the named driver I added licence was going to expire within the policy dates, they sent me a letter saying it will be cancelled, on the day of cancellation they still took a direct debt out of my account and are now refusing to refund it, by this point I had already got another policy from else where, so now I have ended up having to pay for to lots of insurance in one month and to top it off they also want £89 for a cancellation fee! How can they get away with this, the company are complete rubbish and should not be allowed to do this, EVERYONE STAY WELL CLEAR OF THEM AND DO NOT BUY THERE INSURANCE

Absolutely terrible customer service. Happened to check my bank account and appears they took the full premium of nearly £500 off my credit card twice! No explanation, no apology and very bad customer service when I phoned to sort it out. The money is being refunded - but a very bad start!

this company is a joke! I accidentally put in online I had 6 no claims instead of 4, I rang straight away (a day before my policy started) to tell them the lady said I had to pay an extra £150 which I thought was a lot but was willing to pay. She then advice to look compare the market for a cheaper deal with them but I rang them back to say I couldn’t find it cheaper I spoke to someone else who then told me it was now going to cost an extra £450 on top of the £330 I’d already paid for the annual amount! I told him that crazy and that I wanted to cancel my insurance which then cost £60. It was a genuine mistake I was honest straight away! How can you justify £450 for 2 years no claims! Never would I use this company oh and to top it off I was told the refund would be in my account after 2 weeks but then after the 2 weeks was told it was 28 days!!

I have just discovered that Debenhams automatically renewed my policy when I told them by phone that I was still thinking about it because their price seemed high -- there is over a week to go before my current policy expires. I have now managed to cancel the policy with them not just because of their audacity at renewing the policy without my permission but also because I have found an identical policy at half the price. I will never use them again and would recommend others to stay well away from them.

Took out a policy with them. Paid £373 deposit online using my card. Received my certificate of insurance and policy documents via the online portal (which is shockingly bad) Day 2 they email to say the policy has been cancelled. No notice at all! All because I entered the incorrect date for the length of time I held my licence. I was out by 10 days, honest mistake! How they are aloud to trade I don’t know! Should be closed!

*** DO NOT USE THIS CAR INSURANCE NO MATTER WHAT *** AFTER BEING AWAY FOR 2 WEEKS DURING THE LEAD UP TO CHRISTMAS, WE HAVE RETURNED HOME TODAY TO FIND WE HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL (NOT A LETTER BUT INSTEAD AN EMAIL) . THIS EMAIL STATES OUR POLICY WAS CANCELLED ON MONDAY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT RECEIVE A PHOTOCOPY OF OUR DRIVING LICENSE IN TIME (BARE IN MIND WE HAVE BEEN AWAY AND FULLY UNAWARE OF THIS, THEY DID NOT EVEN THINK TO PHONE US AND QUERY THIS WITH US!) AFTER PAYING £300 DEPOSIT FOR OUR RANGE ROVER SPORT AND £200 A MONTH WITH NO MISSED PAYMENTS, I FIND IT FULLY UNACCEPTABLE TO CANCEL A POLICY WITH NO PRIOR WARNING, WHAT IF WE HAD AN ACCIDENT TODAY ON THE WAY HOME OR STOPPED FOR NO INSURANCE BECAUSE WE HAD NO IDEA THIS HAD BEEN CANCELLED ON MONDAY AS THEY ONLY TOLD US BY EMAIL!! - HOW STUPID CAN THIS COMPANY BE?? PERSONALLY I THINK THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF INSURING ANY ONE AND JUST WAS EVERYONE TO PAY A DEPOSIT AND THEN THEY WILL FIND ANY REASON TO CANCEL THE POLICY - 1,000 PEOPLE PAYING £300 DEPOSIT IS A NICE £300,000 PAY DAY FOR THEM PRIOR TO CHRISTMAS!! ****** AVOID AT ALL COSTS - WE HAVE NEVER HAD A POLICY CANCELLED IN 9 YEARS OF DRIVING - YET DEBENHAMS CANCEL WITHIN 2 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING!! ******

Phoned to change vehicle as new registration couldn't find it or manually enter. Need to wait 24 - 48 hours for underwriter to phone back?!! I collect the car tomorrow and they can't even insure it. Furthermore I took out the policy and never received my £50 voucher, as my policy was taken out but didn't commence until a week after the closing date. Customer service agents are inexperienced - the online portal it pants. Worst service ever!

If I could leave minus 5 stars I would. I'm so upset with them. My daughter took out insurance and paid a deposit of around £300 then the rest was on finance. She took her VW Polo home that's 14 years old. The rest of the premium was nearly £3000 for tpft. Then about a week later she got a letter to say they can't do the finance and she needs to pay the full amount or a very hefty payment plan of a around 1000 upfront and 400 a month. She's 18. Unfortunately at the same time this is going on she had a small accident which is being dealt with. The damage is only minor. Anyway she said she couldn't afford to pay the amount or the plan. I stepped in at this point and found another insurer who was cheaper and covered more things. But Debenhams still want the full premium. So I said ok if I pay it and cancel her other one, will she be insured for the year. They said no. You need to pay the debt and then set up another insurance! I'm totally shocked that this is allowed.

DON'T EVEN CONSIDER INSURING WITH THESE PEOPLE. AT FIRST SEEMS GOOD PRICE BUT THEY ADD ON AND ADD ON AFTER IT IS TOO LATE TO CANCEL. WHENEVER THEY ARE QUESTIONED THE ANSWER IS EITHER THAT IS OUR POLICY OR THAT IS WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR PROPOSAL FORM! nOT TRUE!!! Would I really have said that a brand new car costing £20000 was worth just over £9000? Or that I have a no claims discount of 20 years . Speeding convictions over 4 years old are not 'spent' and so it goes on....Every change is VERY costly but to cancel is just as bad!! If there was a no star they would have it

Astronomical costs involved for every change to the policy. Customer service is abysmal with replies such as 'I don't know ask the cancellations dept'. They do not want to help you in any way. Always on hold as they get their answers to all questions from somebody else. Also we Paid up front for my policy. Had to cancel as they will not allow named drivers to use the car for 'business use'. No rebate and a £75 charge. May seem cheap at 1st but don't be fooled

I was told that I would get £50.00 Gift voucher if I purchase Car insurance from Debenham, I purchase as they said but I did not get anything at all. Over the year I called them more than 10 times each time they said, they would call back but never got call back, so not trustworthy Now I cancelled my car insurence from them today.

Rubbish will never use them again. Charge extra for moving house and also if you amend any details by phoning £50 and online £35 plus up to £80 plus if you park on drive double price. Poor customer service all round. All these extra charges and nothing stating these costs to clients before hand... rip off.

NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THESE CHARLATANS Paid my deposit & a day later had a email asking for a code off the DVLA site so that they could check my driving licence summary (never had this happen with any other insurer ever) Got the code & less than 24 hours later was hit with another email telling me they were charging me £62 because I had made an error on my application, I had put the length of years I had my licence out by one year (a genuine mistake) I have never had this problem with anyone else, even after making a claim with another company a few years ago I'm 44 years old! I WOULD HAVE LEFT 0/5 RATING IF I COULD This company are scammers, just look at nearly every review on here
