Abisko Mountain Lodge was a fantastic location, the staff were extremely friendly and the kitchen went out of their way to create delicious meals that catered for our dietary requirements. The only slightly disappointing point was that all our activities were changed from morning to afternoon which meant that they were all done in total darkness so we could not appreciate any of the scenery. We noted that other groups also travelling with yourselves had the same activities such as husky sledding and snowmobiling in the morning and were able to talk to us about the views they had seen. Had we had the opportunity to also do these in the morning it would have been a 5 star holiday.

We had a very enjoyable break, even though the bad weather led to a number of cancelled trips. The hotel was very nice and the food good. We especially enjoyed the Super Jeep trip up to the glaciers. And Omah was a terrific guide - very knowledgable and good company. The only downside was that the name that my flight was booked in did not match my passport, which led to a prolonged conversation at passport control in both directions. Otherwise a good experience that I would recommend. Steve

Dear Steve Thank you for taking the time to give us a review and I am delighted you had a good time despite the cancelled activities due to poor weather. I have just double checked and the flights were booked in the exact names as you supplied to us on your passenger form. Very pleased it did not cause a real problem for you and that you were allowed to fly. Thank you again for taking the time to Review us. Regards Abigail

Our break to Iceland was mixed. Unfortunately, the Northern Lights were a no show. All of our hotels were very good. The excursion to see the Northern Lights in my opinion should have been cancelled as the weather was bad and the prediction of any aurora activity was low. The glacier excursion had to be significantly changed due to the weather but the guide did the best he could, consequently, both trips did not meet our expectation.

Dear Peter, thank you for taking the time to feedback on your recent trip. The weather has really been a challenge the last 10 days and has sadly affected people's trips. We always try to go ahead with the trip if we can, but sometimes we cancel when it is obvious that there really is no chance of seeing the Northern Lights and so no point going out. Ironically I have had another client complain that the activity was cancelled without us at least going out to try ! It is tricky and we rely on our local partners expertise to judge the situation. I am sorry that you did not see the Northern Lights and so as a result are disappointed. Thankyou again for taking the time to feed back. I have passed on in full your feedback to our local partners. Regards

The excursions which were organised by the company were really good and the hosts were brilliant at making us feel welcome and ensuring we achieved what we wanted to get out of the day. The Lodge which we stayed at was also very homely and ensured we always had access to water and hot drinks. The slippers were a lovely touch! The hotel we stayed at in Stockholm exceeded our expectations and the bar was great!

The trip we did was a nice mix of activities and staying at the Icehotel was definitely an experience. The location of the Máttaráhkká Northern Lights Lodge was really good in that it was close to kiruna and yet has an undisturbed view of the national park, and had very little light pollution, and as a result we saw the lights really well on 2 evenings. Given the changeable weather our ice fishing day was replaced with more dogsledding, which we were happy with. However, our photography evening was just straight cancelled and was neither replaced with another activity or refunded. I think Aurora Nights can do better in this regard as we were there for 3 nights, so there was plenty opportunity to move the day or at least offer a partial refund for the trip we'd paid for not running.

Dear Oliver Thanks for the review and i am delighted that you had such a good trip but that the weather conspired against you. The team on the ground are normally excellent in juggling itineraries when needed but I was not aware that you were unable to do the photo evening at the lodge and we will certainly give you a refund for this. I have asked Jan to make contact with you so this can be arranged. Regards Kevin Collins Managing Director - Weekend a la Carte

Team organization, attention to detail, punctuality, provision of documentation, reservations, crew friendliness. What made me unhappy: train ride to Norway was a waste of time--too long of a ride fr such a short stay--less than 2.5 hrs in town didn't provide much time to do anything, not even a decent meal. The lift chair tour was a rip off. After canceling the lift because of winds, the guide took us for a long walk to the lake (which I could have done by myself without paying all that money), and after 5 min of waiting for auroras, he declared it was time to walk back to drink coco (very expensive coco). Five min aurora waiting time was outrageous. Instead of setting a camp at the lake where we could wait for the auroras for at least a coupe of hours. Outrageous and the worse/worthless part of such a great trip.

Dear Yvette Thanks for your feedback and i am delighted that except for the 2 points you raise above you still had a great trip. Just to put into context your comments: The train trip to Narvik is mainly done for the journey on what is an historic railroad. The scenery on a good day is very dramatic. We encourage clients to take a packed lunch from the lodge and use the time in Narvik to visit the peace museum. Re the Sky station this was very unfortunate as they had to operationally shut the sky station for 2 weeks for unscheduled maintenance and put in a Plan B. This has certainly not been met with total satisfaction and we have fed your comments back to the operators. It was unfortunate the sky station was closed as it normally is a great addition to the trip. Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. The accommodation was lovely all the people were friendly and helpful. The people taking us on the activities were brilliant. The food was good. We saw the Northern Light on three occasions The groups were small and intimate. We all had a great time and have lots of photos and memories. It seemed longer than the six days because we busy all the time. Thank you. On the last day the bus to take us to the airport via the ice hotel did not turn up and a friend of the owners took us albeit 35 minutes late. The night when we were going to the sky station we went for dinner at 18.30 to allow time for 20.40 we were first in the restaurant. We finished our starter and main course and were left waiting for the pudding. When we explained that we were going on the trip and it was 45 mins since finishing our main course the waiter argued with us that it was restaurant and 'what should we expect'. We were not pleased with this altercation as we went to the restaurant in good time and ended up with no spare time. In the end it was too windy to go on the chair lift. So this spoiled a little bit out lovely break. However we still have great memories and would be happy to recommend Weekend a la carte to our friends.

First we did not see any Whales and secondly the northern lights were a little weak but at least gave us a hint. That's the bad news none of which is of your making. We had a fabulous few days and just loved the Country and it's people. The hotels were really good and the food at The Ion Hotel was exceptional. Breathtaking vistas of this truly different destination. As far as your arrangements are concerned everything went fairly smoothly apart from a few little hitches but so small not really worth mentioning. All in all we had a wonderful time. Dear David Thank you for your feedback and I'm delighted you had a good time and enjoyed it so much. Sadly the whales have been a little scarce this last couple of weeks. Unfortunately nature cannot be controlled much as I would like it it to be, as it would make my life easier, but I appreciate really disappointing for you. I'm very pleased you liked the hotel so much and thank you for your kind rating. Regards Abigail

The venue was very good and the food excellent. Most of the excursions were excellent except for the coach trip to Narvik which was very ordinary. The exceptional excursions were the Snowmobiling, Dog sledding and the Ice Hotel

Smashing hotels, booked, car hire organised, excellent super jeep trip on Sunday, Iceland is a fabulous place with beautiful scenery. So even when the trip does'nt go to plan there is that to fall back on.

Very good accommodation and friendly staff at hotel Ranga. Greatly enjoyed trips on 4 and 6 wheel drive vehicles! if a bit hairy--the two drivers we had were very helpful as they bounced us up rivers, glaciers and snow/icy tracks. Sadly no northern lights but plenty of winds. Review written by Janet Crockett as Marie unfortunately had a hip replaced in January and refused to come!

Accommodation, hosts and food at Abisko Mountain lodge were superb! Spectacular view and display of the Northern Lights on New Year's Eve. Felt Sami experience (hosts were interesting and cordial but the activities were somewhat disjointed) and Photo Workshop (hosts were informative but the trip was too close to main road to feel in wilderness) were below par, hence 4 rather then 5 stars.

Transport to the lodge went smoothly. Found the notes regarding provision of lunch at the lodge on the day of arrival and the suggestion to grab lunch in the airport as lunch would be over before we reached the lodge both contradictory and confusing. As it was we took the advice and bought lunch at Stockholm airport and surprise, surprise we were provided with lunch at the lodge! The accommodation was as described, basic but comfortable. It felt a little isolated. The trips were well organised and ran to time. Food: good for breakfast but more variety for lunch would be beneficial. one can have too much stew, be it reindeer, moose or beef. Also on the day we went Dog sledding and the Sami wilderness experience the meals were soup and a very poor moose stew (akin to oxtail soup). I suggest that these two trips should not be on the same day or better thought given to the menu. The 4th day was all travel with a long lay over at Stockholm (4hrs).
