We are sorry to hear that the end of the needle pricked your finger.
The information provided alongside the pen states that the needle should be re-sheathed within the outer shield before being deposited inside the sharps bin which avoids most instances of this however we have provided some additional advice to help prevent reoccurrence.
Sharps bins are designed not to have too large an opening so that the sharps waste is less likely to fall out the box if it is overturned when open. Additionally they are to be filled until a fill line marked on the bin to help prevent sharps from protruding and causing injury.
We would normally expect you to be able to cover the needle with the outer shield when it is removed from the device and then drop it into the open box which would remove the need to reach inside the bin or touch the needle directly. It would be unusual for anything to cause the needle to get stuck in the opening however should this be the case we would advise against using your fingers to resolve the blockage.
