This is the first cider kit we bought and it exceeded expectations. We forgot to put the little sachet of extra apple flavour in at the end but it still turned out beautifully. Everyone who has tried it loves it, and my sister in law actually prefers it to some of the brand cider. It came out at 7% so it's definitely not a drink all evening kind of cider. I've now bought the elderflower cider to try next!

The finished cider is lovely! Its worth the additional couple of pounds to get 40 pints of superb cider. Mine ended up at 8% (nothing additional added) so it packs a punch and is in no way a session drink and will last me a long time. I'd recommend leaving the cider in the FV for 2 weeks to ensure it's completely finished doing whatever it wants to do, as mine was giving off an rotten egg smell (contacted Richard and this is normal for cider), but with a bit of time the smell dissipated and didn't transfer with the cider into the keg. I added half the sweetening sachet, which i would do next time as well as its come out nicely balanced.

I've made this and the pear cider and both have been excellent. The wife likes it sweeter than me generally, but even with the full sweetener in it I can still drink it. I plan to split a batch one day and add most of the sweetener to one, leaving the other dry. Then I'll try some blending I think. Anyone who likes cider will like these. Making the dry oak version now...

I love my cider, especially the genuine farm stuff. This is right up there with the best of the genuine farm stuff, even \'bottled\' it in 5 litre jerry cans for authenticity. Buy this and enjoy a sublime experience...

Have to confess, I've always been a ciderhead, used to love Strongbow Super and K, then discovered the delights of REAL cider, made on farms from historic (and often hysterically funnily named) varieties of apple from gnarled trees in ancient orchards. Since then I've sampled many brews, some sublime, a few a bit rough to be honest. This kit sits squarely in the upper bracket. I've had better, Sheppy Tremlets Bitter being one, but this is very fine example of the art. If I'd bought a couple of gallons of this back from a Somerset farm it'd be on my shopping list next time I was there. 22 quid for 5 gallons of top quality cider? No brainer. Tasting notes: Crisp acidity, tastes of high quality eating apple, some nice depth and a clean aftertaste that is currently demanding a second pint.Drinking this in February I think this would be a perfect Summer drop, but it won't last that long!

The kit contents and instructions are well written and very clear. i followed them precisely but sadly the end result is under-whelming to say the least. Approx one month on and it tastes of very little. I did add the enclosed sachet of cider flavouring and this seems to have just left a chemically/pear drop flavour. Hopefully this will mellow out in time but I'm not hopeful. I'll try mixing this with some other cider brewed from apples to add flavour. It would probably carry additinoal fruit flavours well but as a straight apple cider I'm disappointed.
