I made a KIT doll for my son in the 1970s - but somehow we lost it! So I ordered Kitty recently for my granddaughters to play with and she was such a hit that I now need to order another KIT doll for the boys. The instructions were pretty good- it's the first time I have used shirring elastic and I haven't sewn for a long time. Just a comment about the amount of Bias binding which seemed very skimped. I had about 1 cm left, despite being very mean with its use! Having just started sewing again I don't have spare bias binding yet to supplement the amount given in the kit. Also I seem to have been a bit generous with the stuffing and Kit has a fatter neck so the blouse edges don't meet up. Ooops!

Ok, it's confession time, I actually brought this doll kit 10 years ago when my daughter was 10 years old and I'm afraid I looked at the instructions and thought I'm never going to manage that! So I put the kit in a biscuit tin and put it in a cupboard were it stayed until I got my sewing machine out to make face masks. I found the kitty kit and thought I would give it a go. The first thing I made was her dress, the sense of achievement I got from making that one little thing was amazing, I went on to complete the kit and I am thrilled with her. I used machine and hand sewing, I've never used bias binding or sheering elastic before but if I can do it as a novice sewer anyone can. The instructions were good and illustrations were useful. I'm afraid I'm hooked and have also made her brother and Kiki.

Things you do in Lockdown.... my daughter sent me a link for Cloth Kitty last week as I had made her one 38 years ago but I think I must have been short of time as I only made her one dress at the time. She still has the doll which my granddaughters have also played with so spurred on by the link I found the remaining outfits In my stash and finished them. I had lost most of the instructions and two pieces of the pattern which I re created successfully using freezer paper and a printer. My daughter is very pleased to have them and also commented that Cloth Kitty would be pleased as she has worn the same dress for 38 years!!

38 years later I have just made 2 cloth Kitty dolls for my granddaughters. It was certainly a challenge this time round but a real sense of achievement now they're finished! They are such good quality products & I only hope that last as long as daddy's Kit that I made in 1982. Now the girls have their own dolls I have the original doll ( complete with chewed hands!) to try to repair. Another challenge!

I still have cloth kitty and her her brother kit plus assorted clothes which my grandchildren p,at with. I think I also had an Eskimo one more recently? Which I made for my my great nephew. The excitement of the cloth kits catalogue in the 1970s. My daughter had many dresses and dungarees which were passed on and on and remade.
