My experience is one i'll cherish forever. I was welcomed with open arms at Wema (the maternity clinic) where I mostly observed babies being delivered. I saw the beauty Kenya has to offer at places including Massai Mara Hells Gate David Sheldrick elephant orphanage. I also met some amazing volunteers. Coordinator Joe always answered my emails before I came to Kenya. In Kenya he also answered any problems I had. However he didn't come a lot to the volunteer house. Paul (the care taker) cooks very nice food. The overall living experience was excellent. It was very comfortable and homely stay with all the facilities that I could have asked for. I volunteered at Wema maternity clinic in Kenya. I mostly observed mothers give birth. Sometimes there weren't any mothers in labour and during such times while waiting for mothers to come I would cut gauzes or wash windows with other volunteers. The staff are all very nice. They welcomed me with open arms. Massai Mara Hells Gate Visiting the Makimay childrens home meeting the other volunteers meeting the staff at wema clinic were the highlights of my volunteering trip in Kenya. ?

I definitely loved the children and the moments when they smile and laugh. An amazing experience was the safari in the Massai Mara and my trip to the Hell's Gate National Park. I would recommend every future volunteer to go there. The local stuff at the orphanage is really friendly and caring. But even though it may be normal for Africa the work there wasn't well organized. Sometimes the food was really good and I loved it but sometimes I only had e.g plain spaghetti. There should have been more vegetables and less carbs. The accommodation was really nice if you compare it to the African standard. The overall design of the website was quite attractive and navigating the site was easy. The pre-departure booklet is also good. Although I felt 40-50 USD what is advised in the booklet is definitely not enough per week. I would recommend VolSol to anyone i know is willing to volunteer abroad mostly because of the variety of programs.

I liked how friendly the website is in a way that explains everything not a lot of text and goes straight to the important information . The pre-departure booklet also has very good information complete and specific. Service staff was great always answering my questions I totally enjoyed my placement. Meals although taste great but are very repetitive. Breakfast never changed . Every single day was eggs and toast. The In country coordinator and support staff were Great! Always helping and gave us every time a lot of support. Getting to bond with kids is an amazing experience to get to spend some time with babies play with them take care of them learning some Swahili getting deep into Kenya with people doing using transport eating and living like locals is the highlight of my trip. :) I would like to see more volunteers pictures or videos on the website especially the latest ones. Loved the experience !! Thanks a lot!!

I was lucky enough to be able to do the 2-week volunteering program in Kenya this Easter. I was working in an orphanage in Nairobi with Volunteering Solutions they are known in Kenya as Children's Home. I was received at the airport in Nairobi by the local coordinator appointed by VolSol named Joe.The drive to the volunteers house is less than an hour if I remember correctly. It's an apartment within a block the block is gated and there are guards there to let cars in and out. It's very safe. A The apartment has all the basic amenities needed for a stay. 2 bed rooms with each room has 2 bunk beds so can fit 4 people and a small wardrobe. It has 1 bathroom with a loo and shower. The shower does often go cold but it's ok because you just have to get someone to flip a switch and the hot water comes back on again. About the orphanage: The orphanage where i worked is managed by these three wonderful ladies. When I first joined there the orphanage had 5 babies under the age of 1 but there are now 2 more babies since then. There are 2 toddlers and the rest of the children are old enough to be at school. You can pretty much pick your hours they are just happy to have volunteers so don't mind what time you come and go. Your main responsibilities will be to look after the babies you can get as stuck in as you like. You can choose the kind of responsibility you’d like to handle but don’t expect it to be a cake walk. No one said volunteering will be easy. I chose to be there and do as much as I could to help but you don't have to change nappies or mop up sick if you don't want to. You could just stick to bottle feeding the babies and cuddling them. If you want to do something nice I took a few children to the cinema one night with Rachel and Rachel. (At West Gate) Super cheap it was a special deal on a Tuesday 600 shilling for film popcorn drink and a hot dog!! These children don't really go beyond their school and home so it was really special for them. It was an incredible experience and you are made to feel incredibly welcome by the staff. Both the Rachels and Margret are truly wonderful people!!! Everyone I met is also incredibly religious so be prepared to talk a lot about God. You get awarded a certificate at the end of your 2 weeks which is very kind. If you do indeed to do this project- enjoy!!!! It really is wonderful.

I liked that the site was user friendly and it was easy to find information about certain areas and programs. I thought the Pre Departure booklet had a lot of good information. Staff were very helpful in answering my questions and helping me prepare. I did enjoy my placement very much. I do feel that my experience was worthwhile and efforts were appreciated. The accomodations were very nice and well kept and the meals were very good. Everyone was very helpful. Joe (Country Coordinator) was good about answering questions and helping work things out when there was uncertainty about anything. I think one of the best parts was just meeting so many people from all over the world but I of course loved working with the children also as well as going on Safari.

I loved my placement. Most of time they had enough work for me to do and when they didn&#39 t i started cleaning rooms. I kept busy just had to get creative. Working with orphans and Cleaning burn wounds were highlights from my trip. Both accommodation and meals were good. My host family was very welcoming and took care of me. The coordinator was very helpful and always reachable. I will surely recommend this program to people who are looking to volunteer abroad.

The pre departure booklet was very beneficial. It included all the information that we actually needed to know. I enjoyed working at the orphanage. And I think all the orphanages have been picked correctly for volunteers to go work there since they are in need for us. The house was nice and calm the meals were good. Joe was nice as well. I would recommend this program and the organization. It is one of a Kind. And hopefully next year will join again.

I was in Africa for two weeks and i keep wishing i had more time there. I met some amazing people had the experience of a lifetime . I have memories that are so deeply engraved in me i truly believe i will never ever forget them . The kids were as sweet as possible my time with them in the classroom was more than enjoyable. I felt so proud when 6 year old Marlon learned to write the number 6. I still smile when i remember him drag the chalk on the blackboard saying &quot down circle&quot . If you need change in your life perspective an experience like no other! If you need to feel loved and give a bit back to the universe ! If you want to draw smiles on those kids faces simply by being there for them i recommend a volunteering trip . Meeting people from different backgrounds seeing the kids everyday feeling the gratitude and the joy of helping people are all part of what i lived during my stay in Kenya! I wish it for everyone who has love in their hearts!
