“I bought this as a bit of an experiment.
I have several PoE hats that I use and one of them (a much larger DLSR unit) failed outside of any warranty period so I bought this to replace it and I was curious as to whether it could be used (and would fit under the lid) in the back of the official 7" Pi touchscreen enclosure to power both the Pi and the screen.
TLDR summary - it works great, no issues so far.
A little more detail here is that the photo of the product (at least as I received it) is slightly wrong.
Rather than having the end three pairs of pins replicated as pads on the PoE hat PCB as in the photo the one I received had them replicated as pins with the hat having a pre-soldered 90 degree 2x3 pin header - so the six pins on the GPIO header that the PoE hat blocks off are still available - and still as pin headers - just relocated on the PoE hat, so I was able to power the 7" touchscreen using the same female DuPont cables as I had used before - awesome!”
“Added to my Pi 4 this is a fabulous addition for my use case. I hate cables, so the ability to eliminate the need for a power cable is a welcome benefit I just couldn't pass up for my Pi 4 use case of a Homebridge and VPN client server. Now the Pi just sits there silently plugged directly into my POE switch with no need for any other cables - truly a set it up and forget it option.”
“Unlike the 'big' POE Hat, this board leaves most of the GPIO exposed, and provides "pass through" access to the GPIO pins that it covers, so it really doesn't get in the way of anything. I was able to connect a Mini RTC module and drive it as if the POE board wasn't there.”
