“The thermal credentials are very good. But this heatsink kills the Wi-Fi. Sensitivity is severely reduced I could still see my Wi-Fi signal but no others. However, it would not connect. I suspect this is due to near field effects reducing the power on the transmit side. Removing the top allowed me to connect, but only in certain orientations of the Pi.”
“After using this heatsink for several days, I must say that I have a bit of regrets about buying it. The price difference between this and the flirc was small, but I thought this would be as effective as the latter. It isn't. Now don't get me wrong, it's MUCH better than those small heatsink (rubbish for the pi4) and certainly much more effective than having no heatsink at all, but considering the price it should be more effective. One thing I noticed is that the bottom part of it is useless. The bottom part is itself a heatsink but the only part that connects to the top (for heat transfer) are the screws, and there's not enough area to effectively transfer the heat. Also they have made a small bulge on the bottom to have contact with the wifi chip so it could dissipate that heat. Now I know that it would reduce the network strength, and I don't use wifi on my project so it doesn't matter to me, but being as it is there's no point on having a huge chunk of metal beneath the pi if it doesn't have any purpose. Bottom line is that it does its job, but it is a bit expensive for what is does. I'm happy with it, but I don't think I would buy it again or recommend it to a friend, at least not for this price.”
“If you want Passive Cooling ie with no fans and no noise then this is the casing for you. I fitted it to my Pi 4 and noticed a -20°c reduction in heat generated.
The Pi4 runs very hot, and if you are doing something intensive like running MotionEye then you can generate enough heat to start the Pi Throttling at 85°c, this case avoids that issue. I found standing the Pi on its side with this case keeps it even cooler.”
“Bought this as a passive heatsink for a RaspberryPi NAS server with a 2Tb SSD Absolutely silent and cool (not hot!!). Not to mention how small it all is.
