Great little machine. Definitely worth considering for any project you might want to test out.

This is a great kit with everything you need to get a cm5 board going straight away. Really simple to put the parts together and with the pi5, setting up the software is so much easier. I’m looking to add an AI card to do some tests with AI content creation and I think this will help kick things off. I’ve been buying my raspberry pi parts directly from this store for over a year and never had an issue with an order. The one time I did, was fixed FAST.

Purchased the cm5 dev kit after my Pi5 got consumed by a touch screen project. Primarily I'm after a platform for Code Blocks to compile C++ for other Pi projects. The attactraction of the dev kit was everything in a single purchase complete with full size HDMI and a metal case. It's not quite plug and play as the I/O board needs to be removed from the case to fit the passive cooler, which secures the cm5 module in place. Dissapointments are the fan fouling the passive heatsink, which makes it an either or choice and having the cm5 relying on push fit if you choose the fan. I guess you could find alternate mounting hardware but I'm trying to avoid the faff here. The other thing to be aware of is the eMMC chip occupies the cm5 SD card interface. I was a little perturbed the SD card slot on the I/O board did not appear to be working, until I read up on the detail. After DDing an SD to a SATA SSD in a USB enclosure it booted up just fine. Takeaway is you need a cm5 Lite if want the convenience of SD cards. I will be trying NVME and booting from a USB SD card reader in due course.

Received a Board with faulty SD card slot Took several support emails to get to the point I could send it back without incurring costs, not received a replacement yet, or any notification of the returned item being received - not overly impressed with the service so far To review the kit I can - the case supplied has a fan, the fan cannot be used in conjunction with the heatsink supplied with the kit - there isnt enough clearance in the case, but there is no notification of this, or anyhting in the FAQ's Neither is there any documentation stating that the fan / heatsink is / isnt needed so as not to fry the compute module - I had to raise a support ticket to find out the answer - which is one or the other is fine! So my Pi project is nearly 2 weeks overdue due to this, and then I get invited to leave a review! Well.. theres my review

Decided for my 1st pi5 I would delve into using a compute module. This kit was ideal and decently priced. Yes, I could have bought all the bits individually but this was the easiest and cheapest way. Initially was out of stock but got an email to tell me when it was again available. Great idea as it saved me continually having to look. Tricky to get OS loaded as different method compared to Pi but solved quickly by email. Maybe PiHut could add info into their product description advising how to get started. Slightly annoying that fan goes to 100% when powered down but I believe that a fix is being rolled out soon for this. A slot could also be provided in the case to allow a GPIO 40way ribbon cable to be utilised. Anyway these are small issues and I am delighted with the kit and it's power button on the front with all connectors at the rear. Looks good underneath my monitors.

I cancelled my order for this almost immediately after ordering it. Reason? I watched a YouTube video that highlighted problem fitting the fan in the case at same time as hestsink. Obviously I never received the product so I can not judge it for myself. I have given it 4 stars here to give it the benefit of the doubt. I love The Pi Hut, and have never had any issues with them, BUT they do need to sort out their cancellation process. As I said above, I cancelled this order by email within an hour of ordering, and it was all out of hours. But I got an email saying although it was cancelled they would still be dispatching the order! So I ended up losing 2 lots of postage charge, the product bounces around in transit unnecessarily, and the environment suffers. That could really do with being handled better?
