“When smart phones can offer such amazing power, little wonder we can now buy a credit card computer which will do so much. It runs the Linux operating system (and others) and has an easily used interface for controlling hardware or receiving inputs from sensors. There is a fair amount of DIY work needed to use all its facilities which is the point of its design - to teach and encourage the use of computers for doing useful things. You can buy all sorts of accessories for it and the amount of software available (free) is amazing.
As well as your Raspberry Pi you will need to get a USB mouse, a USB keyboard, a HDMI VDU/TV and a 5 volt power supply (or use your phone charger. You will need a Micro SD memory card with the operating system installed which you can buy or which you can download free and install from your Windows or Mac computer.”
