“In one word: fast. Less HW decoding options, but I feel a definite upgrade compared to the RPi4. My Nextcloud instance feels less like a makeshift hobbyist project and more like an actual paid-for solution.
I'm not sure why there are fanless cases being sold, though - this thing gets a lot toastier than the RPi4, and you'll definitely want sufficient cooling to get the full performance boost you're paying for.”
“Super fast compared to the 4 which was no slouch.
Really awesome. Not a fan of the micro hdmi, but understand why they had to put it in.
Faster micros sd is pretty awesome too.”
“Runs a bit hotter than pi4, but that's because the mouse inside is having to run much faster to provide more speed. I was impressed by pi4 but the speed of things like package install is very pleasing. I think I'm at the point of dropping my (hobbyist) hosted server, as pi5 seems to be doing everything I need. Pi4 running apache was a bit slow generating PDFs, Pi5 flies through tasks like that.”
“An amazing micro computer with gpio so can be used for anything from a home automation server or NAS down to directly attaching, say, a moisture sensor to alert when a plant needs watering.”
“A worthwhile upgrade. Certainly faster than previous versions and well capable of running normal desktop applications. The on/off switch is a welcome addition, time will tell how long it lasts.”
