“As well as being a low cost way into computing, the Raspberry Pi Zero is a great device for running stand-alone always-on applications. For the last year I've been running my livestock records on a Raspberry Pi 3. With a bluetooth eartag reader linked to my phone or tablet I get instant information from the Pi when I'm out in the field (literally:-)) or in the shed. Now that's running successfully, the current project for the Pi Zero is to automate various gates (real gates, not logic ones!) and handling equipment in the shed. The prototype is already doing the message switching for controlling pneumatic cylinders over wifi.”
