“The CPU gets very hot even idling. I'm surprised a heatsink doesn't come as standard - it really should.
Other than that, I'm happy over all. I got the 4GB of RAM with 16GB SD card model and a stock case.
With the case on, at idle, you're talking 72C. With the case off you're talking 64C. The CPU really needs a heatsink to cool it down. Suggest buying a case with a fan. Would have been nice to bump the memory card up to 32GB, but c’est la vie.”

“I bought this Pi to replace my 3, which I use as a server. The greater speed, gigabit and USB3 were all perfect for my use scenario.
Unfortunately the Pi4 as is gets far too hot. I was getting throttling and even thermal shutdowns, it was entirely useless as a server.
To fix it, I turned down the resolution (it was outputting 4k to my TV), took off the top of the case, installed small heat sinks and then turned off the GUI altogether. Still it was in the high 60s at idle, and throttling under load. This throttling caused long pauses in disc activity, and hence buffering of audio and video.
Eventually I bodged a 12cm fan onto it, driven at 5V so it's silent, and the temperature is acceptable, at 42 degrees.
So I do now have a much better system, but I can't help but think that the system out of the box is not really fit for purpose - if you put it into the supplied case and output to a 4k TV, you'll get thermal shutdowns. That's not right.”
“The Model B Starter kit was extremely easy to set up. I started off with a USB keyboard and mouse and then moved to a Wireless keyboard and mouse. Connected to a Sony Bravia TV. I was hoping to install OSMC as the sole and primary system but sadly had to fall back to Raspbian and the Libre Koki like thing I can't recall the name of. - but point being the Pi 4 is now dual boot while i wait for an OSMC that works on Pi 4 to arrive.”
