As recommended by Pi Hut, I have successfully used WD Green 240GB M.2 SSDs in the bases of the two Argon ONE M2 Raspberry Pi4 cases and 4GB Pi4s, all bought from Pi Hut. Booting the SSD without an SD took a bit of effort to work out, but now it works I am chuffed, and have two Pi4s running with 64-bit Lubuntu desktop. They are in effect, functioning “PCs” that I use for software development.

Perfect M.2 SSD Drive for an Raspberry Pi 4 with the ArgonOne M.2 Case with M.2 Interface. I use this drive in this configuration as a 3CX Server, where during office hours the RPI is currently doing the job previously handled by a DEL rack mounted server, handling all of our telephone calls via SIP VOIP Network.. At any one time it could be dealing with upto 10 calls at the same time, with upto another five people on hold or being dealt with by the automated assistant, or leaving voicemails. The RPI in this case gets a pounding, but never does the temperature get above 40 degrees C, with the most I have seen has been the ArgonOne fan getting upto 25% speed for a few seconds, before throttling back down to stopped again!! So the SSD M.2 Drive in particular, is constantly writing and reading all day long, is extremely fast, and the reliable solution for running and booting a RPI, where we use it completely without an SDCard (there are tutorials online of how to easily do this) I could have brought a SSD M.2 from anywhere, but I guess PiHut know which one works with the ArgonOne, both physically (size and mounting) as well as being a good fit for the RPI 4 environment. I could not be happier!

So fast! This has proven much more reliable than the SD. Bootable too. What's not to like. Spot on.

Worked like a charm out of the box. Am running a Samba server off this with a Pi + ArgonOne for my Sonos system.
