“Out of the box, the quality is terrible! (it is very cheap)
However... with a couple of quick mods it can be a very good value piece.
Here's what I did:
- Strip it all down
- Replace all the dreadful wingnuts with normal M4 nuts and screws.
- Really tighten up the grub screws and lowest ball joints which connect the base to the cross arm.
- Glue, or solder the nuts to the clamp plates for convenience.
- Add heat shrink to the ball ends to give more progressive grip rather than on/off.
- Add heat shrink to the alligator grips.”
“I'm new to the world of electronics and I'm really glad I got this as I now know I couldn't of managed without one. I'm not sure about the magnifying glass personally. Maybe my eyes are different to a lot of people's but I kept going cross-eyed trying to use it. The clips are strong, it's heavy enough to hold things in place. It's a bargain”
“Had to use pliers the first time because the screws were done up so tight but works fine after that. Also the alligator clips can leave bite marks on silicone wire (i’ve not tested others) but it doesn’t seem to go through the insulation so it’s probably fine.”
