“Fun to build and easy to use. Had some issues with broken and missing parts but I sorted it out myself, but pihut did offer a no quibble refund but I'm happy with what I did. Cheers.”
“I still have not received my camera kit. Ordered the kit on June 16 order #251131. Paid the extra to expedite the shipping. Royal Mail tracking RS842741209GB indicated it should have arrived here but Canada Post has no record of it.”
“Nice quality. However once built the PIR did not work. Discovered that the Instructions show it's output connected to Pin 11, but the python script was expecting the input to be on Pin 13. Modified the code and it worked ok. Camera pictures had a slight green cast in the corners, added a couple of washers to move the camera closer to the front and the green cast is now gone. The new power boost has no screw holes and is laid out differently so doesn't fit as nicely as the 500C. Had the same issue as Gavin L that the spacers included for the PIR were too long and needed cutting down slightly so the PIR would fit. There is an extra piece of plastic that seems to have no purpose in the kit. First few pictures in look quite good.”
“Jon from Naturebytes did several workshops at our primary school and the children LOVED it! They enjoyed putting the kits together and monitoring the wildlife that they captured. We captured photos of robins, foxes, squirrels, jays, pigeons, blackbirds and even a cat! Thank you Naturebytes for these wonderful sessions.”
“Ive built mine with a Pi 3 and it works great. Just hook up to wifi and you can pull off the photos as they are taken. Photo quality is good too. Really happy with it so far.”
“Overall I was impressed with the build quality. It was easy to put together and basically worked immediately... once I'd waited a few hrs to charge the battery. It was quite fun to build.
However a number of small black spacers were missing, and if they had been included wouldn't have been the correct length (the PIR sensor pushes against the window if you use the size provided). The camera seems a bit slow to trigger, so you often miss e.g. a bird if it flies away too quickly. Also you have to have either a large animal, or be very close to a bird feeder, for the camera to be triggered, so the sensor doesn't seem to be sensitive enough (even after tweaking). Cables for the battery easily get caught in the lid and damaged if you are not careful.
So overall it was fun to build and play around with, but for the money I'd hoped for better, especially in terms of capturing stills of wildlife, in particular birds.”
“The beautiful crafted case (weather proof) holds a Raspberry Pi (A+), a camera (regular one) and all the other components (battery, voltage regulator, PIR) to leave it running stand-alone for a couple of days.
The kit either keeps the pictures on the supplied USB flashdrive, or on the internal flashcard (holding the OS too). Since it runs Raspbian you can tweak it even further with a WIFI dongle if you want.
So it's fully customizable if you want. Building it was fun and easy, 30 minutes work top.”
