“Hub itself is perfect. Materials are good quality, cooperation with Raspberry also. Two issues I observed: - LED diode is ridiculously strong. Could be used as lamp. Duck tape recommended. - Power adapter is not handling peak currents very well. In mine environment it powers hub, Raspberry itself and 750GB 2.5'' WD Blue disk in USB 2.0 enclosure. As long as disk keeps on spinning everything works. But sometimes (not very often but still...) when it starts (idle->spinning) there is sound indicating that spin up plates fails due to lack of current. Pure mechanical sound that could be heard only in silent room when disk lays close to you. As result there is i/o error and to deal with that it is best to reboot raspberry. With Laptop and PC there is no issue - it is strictly related to power source.”
“Well, I already had a dedicated power supply for the Pi, purchased together with the Raspberry Pi itself, from a different vendor. I needed a USB hub to host (1) a WiFi dongle, (2) a wireless keyboard/mouse combo dongle, (3) one or more WD Passport hard disks, of the USB-2 or USB-3 type. The "7 Port USB Hub for the Raspberry Pi", is able to support the above combination without any problems. The reason for the suboptimal rating is that reading other reviews here, I thought that the Hub would be able to also provide power for the Pi itself through the USB connection. That was not possible in my case; the dedicated power supply was necessary, even when nothing -apart from the Pi- was connected to the Hub. There are no instructions included in the package and this is normal, in my opinion, for a USB hub. I am curious, however, on whether I am missing something here or I had a wrong impression beforehand.”
“The USB hub is compact and looks good, easy to hide and comes with a small stand if you want it in standing postion. Other than that, it does what it supposed to do. /M”
