“I like the NVMe case for the Pi5. I had the NVMe base on the Pi for some time but I was worried about dropping something on it or having it touch something conductive. I followed the instructions on the Pimoroni web site to install the NVMe case and it was not at all difficult. The tricky part is getting the PCIe cable connected. I used a very small needle nose pliers to get the cable in the slot in the Pi. I did not have any small nut drivers so I used my very small needle nose pliers again to hold the standoffs while the screws were tightened. One thing that could have saved me a step; I had the rubber feet on the NVMe base and those have to come off before you can install the NVMe base into the case. One other thing I would like to see is for the case to be 1 or 2 millimeters taller to make it easier to connect wires to the GPIO pins without crimping them over so hard. The little slot adjacent to the GPIO pins is a good idea but a couple of millimeters taller would be great.”
“Nice and solid. Would give 5 stars except assembly was fiddly and tweezers were needed to refit the ribbon cable, which felt like the two boards were further stood off than with the original nvme base kit.”
“I’ve been waiting for this since I bought my NVMe base. Fits perfectly. One suggestion. I found it a bit difficult to connect the flex connector after the NVMe and Pi-5 were in the case. It that flex connector was just 2-3 mm longer it would resolve that issue. Great case! Get one.”
Ahoy Stanley
Thanks for the nice review! It sounds like you're sorted now, but we do sell longer PCIe cables if you're in need of one: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pcie-flex-cable-for-nvme-base-and-raspberry-pi-5?variant=41449370943571
Ahoy (and thanks for the review!)
The small spacers are for if you want to use this case without an NVMe Base - they're the same thickness as the PCB so they ensure everything remains at the correct height.
“The case looks good, is an excellent fit, and feels very sturdy. It is advisable to use the available online instructions as none are included; however, setting up is not at all difficult. Overall, excellent.”
“The Pimoroni NVMe case is great . It looks good and feels good. At first I was concerned that the metal would impact on my Pi's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. In practice, I've noted no difference. The really big gain is the power button that works really well and is so easy to use! The status LED also looks great when seen through the case. Assembling the case is a little tricky. A nut spinner is recommended but I coped with just a pair of tweezers. One trick that helps out when mating a standoff to an unseen bolt is to turn the standoff backwards until you feel a click. At this point the threads are in position and will engage correctly when you start turning forwards.”
