“Ideal case for the Pi5 with a NVMe including the cooler . Easy to set up has all the connections accessible . The only draw back for those biulders amongst us , a need for a ribbon extension for the pins. Other than that a great little case to protect a Pi5. Sturdy metal case that only seems to slow down a WiFi connection a little.
Pleased I choose this one.”
“Lovely way to finish off your Pi5 with NVMe base and active cooler.
I had previously used my own design 3D printed case, but thought my Pi deserved a luxury pad to reside in!
I found assembly easy - just take review the instructions, take your time and don't force anything!!
Pi runs nice and cool as well.”
“Not actually usable with GPIO, which is half the point of a RasPi rather than some other small system. If you have, say, a Breakout Garden, you'll want to attach it with a ribbon cable, and the case *does* have a slot the right size to allow this. But you'll find that the ribbon cable and the spacers that attach the case on that side are fighting for the same space. (The ribbon cable *also* fights with the official heatsink; RapPi have just increasingly intruded on the space around the GPIO header unfortunately.)
If you're doing ad-hoc jumper wires from specific GPIO pins, you could get away from it, but if you want to send a HAT or such outside the case you're out of luck. I'm at a loss as to how they didn't test this. Mine's running with those two spacers omitted, and my GPIO cable ground down to as little extra plastic as possible, only held together on one side as a result. A better fix would be to not hold the case lid on by bolting all the way through the board since there really isn't clearance for anything much more than a bolt head at board level.
Note also that the SD card becomes *really* hard to access, although most of that is actually the fault of the ribbon cable for the NVMe base, which is *incredibly* fiddly to attach in this setup since you can't do at 90 degrees first; you must to it in-place since you need to wriggle the USB sockets into their holes first if you're following Pimoroni's instructions.”
Ahoy!
Sorry to hear you didn't like the case - if you'd like to return it so you can buy one that allows easier access to the SD card/GPIO please drop us an email at support@pimoroni.com and we can send you our returns details.
