Works nicely with Samsung 980 500Gb. Base gets quite warm during use.

This was the ideal component to test out using an SSD on my new PI 5. I hae a few different ideas on what i am going to do with it - Mini portable NAS - Gaming platform using the SSD as rom storage

I paired the Pimoroni NVMe Base up with a Lexar 1TB NM790 SSD and configured the Pi5 for PCIe Gen3. It's performed flawlessly and provides a blistering read speed of 870MB/s for sequential reads and gives a pibenchmarks score of around 58,000. The Lexar also has the benefit of being well within the 1A limit for the Pi5's PCIe connector. Most other SSDs that perform this well are too power hungry for a PCIe adaptor without suplementary power, so bear this in mind when selecting an SSD to use with the NVMe Base. The Pi5 has now replaced my beast of an AMD PC for everything apart from gaming and video encoding. It feels surprisingly nippy with a modest overclock to 2.7GHz when booting from an NVMe SSD!

Awesome bit of hardware. I built a NAS using a Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB drive.
