“At first it did not work at all.
After searching online I finally understood why.
I will blame the old guy, me, for not knowing the differens between ssd sata and nvme - stupid me.
When connecting the correct version, nvme, everything works flawless.
A BIG thanks goes out to Pimoroni for a solid RaspberryPie5 built hat-card.”
“Easy to install, clear instructions, works as described.
Should be used with low power consumption SSD NVME.
NVME was automatically recognized after it was installed and supports pciex1_gen3.”
“The board is 5star but I have one problem with it I like to have a bit longer cable. to have a bit more space between pi 5 and base. also I use Edatec Open Heatsink Case and it fits so that I use only top part and even then fit is minimal. I started thinkig on a case where pi and base are sitting on side and at 90 degree angle a bit of the surface then air flows from bottom to top by convection”
Ahoy Mati
Thanks for the review! We now have some longer PCIe cables available here: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pcie-flex-cable-for-nvme-base-and-raspberry-pi-5?variant=41449370943571
“2nd Base for second pi5. Much easier to install a second time. All about checking that the ribbon cable is carefully and properly seated and latched. This time using a 4 TB SSD with a partition for Ubuntu and a partition for a ZFS file system. Hit the MBR limit this time so needed to format as GUID partition. This meant using a more manual method of installing the Ubuntu image on the ssd. All good though and data is flying off the SSD. Love the combo of pi5 and NVMe base.”
“amazing piece of kit. Makes my little pi5 rig super fast. Its also super neat and tidy aswell and can still access the sdcard for multiboot if needed.”
