Used on a yew hedge. Went for hours on a single 5Ah battery. Hot knife through butter, well balanced, light and very quiet. Perfect for maintaining hedges. I tried to renovate an old bush but it did not like cutting through brown wood that was more than pencil thick, which to be fair, was pushing it beyond specification.

This is an excellent quality hedge trimmer, I owned a Ryobi 18v model for a couple of months but bought the Makita to replace it, the Makita DUH523z is a sturdy but not overly heavy trimmer even with a 5ah battery attached it has a really good balance. The blades are rust resistant and are extremely sharp making very light work of very overgrown bramble. The trimmer is also very quiet and has a definite feel of quality that I certainly didn’t get with the Ryobi! I rally appreciate the safety buttons on the Makita, much safer in my opinion than the Ryobi model I had previously.

This hedge trimmer looks and feels just right for me (as an older lady) to handle although I have not had the opportunity to use it yet, due to the winter weather, so I cannot comment on how efficient it is. However, we own lots of Makita power tools so I am confident that it will be perfect for trimming our one 3-metre long laurel hedge two or three times a year. It feels well balanced once the battery is attached and it's not too heavy. I'm looking forward to using it when the weather allows.
