Once the battery is fitted, it's nicely balanced. Fairly quiet, seems to cut well (test of time will reveal if blades stay sharp) and on a 3Ah battery there's enough run time for any job I've needed to do so far, ie up to 30 minutes of use. Recommended

Superb piece of kit. Purchased as a light duty trimmer to supplement my Sthil petrol brush cutter. I have several hundred yards of hedging and since buying the Makita DUH523Z I have hardly used the Sthil. At 3Kg it is half the weight, and with a 5AH battery it lasts ages.

Really quiet compared to my previous hedge trimmer. At first when I powered it up, I thought, what had I done. It appeared to be lacking power. But how wrong I was.

I bought this as I needed a hedge trimmer for occasional use and I already have another Makita 18v cordless tool. I was a little concerned that it might be under-powered or have a short run-time on the 3Ah battery that I have. Not at all: with a little patience it cuts through slim branches up to about 20mm diameter and I completed a very overgrown beech hedge in our garden (approx. 10m long by 3m high) with one recharge. And as Makita batteries charge in only 30-40 minutes that was perfect for a tea break from hedge trimming! A good value well-made functional tool for domestic use.
