My existing mower took a dedicated battery only obtainable from the mower manufacturer and useless for anything else. I also realised that they change the battery design on new products. With the battery failing I wondered if buying an expensive replacement was sensible to then find the mower itself was past its best and I then have a useless expensive battery that would not fit their newer mower. Most of my tools use DeWalt batteries and I have a good stock but the DeWalt mower was far too expensive but Makita stood out as ticking the boxes. Quality was likely to be OK, the batteries are easily obtainable and the batteries could be useful for other tools. The Makita decision was sealed when I saw there was a deal to get a second set of batteries free from Makita. This meant that if the mower ran out of power I could immediately use the second set while the first was charging and once the replacements ran low the first would be charged and ready. The second decision was which mower and where to buy. I found I needed to be careful here as comparing suppliers showed some were offering slightly different mowers which looked the same and some offered 5 amp batteries, Some 4 and some as small as 3 amp. Then I found some with large delivery charges or long deliveries. I had never used Power Tool World but their offer of the 430 wide mower (while others offered 380) with 5 amp batteries and free delivery was vastly better than others. My order was delivered quickly and inside the time quoted and my first impression of the mower is very good. Quick and easy to assemble, plenty of power to cut the, now rather long, grass, light enough to push up my very hilly garden and easy to store. The batteries just lasted for cutting the back garden. The free set have been ordered from Makita but they only deliver after a month when the free return period for the mower has ended. Final point. The common batteries have already proved a good idea as when my small edge trimmer failed an economic replacement was Makita as I did not need a battery of charger.

Bought this to replace corded lawnmower it certainly makes the job much easier,it cuts the grass well but does labour slightly if it comes to a longer area, but nothing to worry about. It has good run time I have cut both my lawns twice and have not had to recharge Overall an excellent lawnmower and well worth the purchase

This is a proper lawnmower. Having seen and used other cordless mowers (e.g. G-Tech, Bosch) they are basically toys compared with the Makita. Very flimsy build, not much cheaper and inferior performance in terms of grass cutting, collection and battery life. Neither the Bosch nor the G-Tech could complete my lawns (back front and a side section) on a single charge, whereas the Makita had about a third of the charge left after doing all 3. The grass collection box is a good size and easy to remove / re-attach. There are only 2 small points that could be improved: while the cutting blade is excellent, the ability to lift cuttings could be better, and the handles fold down, but other products have quick-release bolts which are much easier to use. Overall, an excellent product and I'm glad I went for Makita - I have never been disappointed with this brand.
