Lovely overnight stay with our two children, aged 14 and 9 aswell as our two dogs, Doris and Daisy. Family room was lovely, clean and spacious. Bar staff were polite and friendly. Food and drinks great although over priced - £18 for scampi and chips!

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Hotel car park is about 50yards away. Comfortable rooms with access to the gardens down flights of stairs.
This was a lovely venue in a very dog friendly town. The staff always asked first if they could give our dog a treat. When we asked if there was a particular place we could eat accompanied by our dog we were told any room with a wooden floor - and there were quite a few! The hotel has a beautiful garden with barrels of water and dishes for the dogs.

We booked as this was a Pets Pyjamas recommended hotel. I called in advance to let them know our arrival time which was around 6.30pm and ask to book a table for dinner. I was told they didn’t take reservations by phone but it wouldn’t be a problem. On arrival the check in person was very brusque and unfriendly ending by saying I had to be down for dinner in half an hour or it was too late . We had been driving for 4 hours with our dog so then had no time to freshen up or take the dog for a quick walk. I ordered a salad but it arrived with completely different ingredients to those stated on the menu . I was told that there would be no charge but on check out we were charged in full. The room had no pets facilities which we had expected - no bowl for example and was a very long way from outdoors including 3 flights of stairs abd multiple fire doors which are difficult to navigate with a dog. I asked at reception for a bowl but was told they had run out and that dog friendly meant the dog was allowed in our room. There was nowhere to park on arrival so we were directed to the car park in the square which was fine. However we were woken at 7.25 the next morning by reception telling us to move our car by 8am or get a ticket ( we had been told a number of times it was free until 9am by which time we could park in the hotel car park - as the council were scheduled to resurface the square that morning. There was no apology just a very brusque demand.Breakfast was basic and again we were told we had a limited time to order ( it wasn’t even 9am by now and we had been rushing around trying to move the car as there was no hotel parking at that time either) . We felt like we were a big inconvenience . Check out was poor . The check out person tried to charge me in full for the room which we had paid in advance for then the bill included the meal we had been told would be free of charge. I couldn’t face arguing by then and we were very pleased to leave . I have nothing good to say about the hotel or the staff.

The hotel is right in the centre of Helmsley - a beautiful market town. The room was smaller than expected and there weren't any doggie extras. Nevertheless, it is an interesting hotel with lots of rooms to eat and drink with your dog. Lots of places to walk the dog in the town and nearby green areas. We all enjoyed it.

We had a family room with bunk beds and Betty & Nelly were happy with their accommodation ( in their baskets) on the lower bunk. Very dog friendly which made my birthday very special. Lunch from the deli Hunters and evening meal at The Black Swan… pawfect

We had a great stay at the Black Swan and were very well looked after by the busy, friendly staff. Food was great, location perfect. Helmsley is a very dog friendly town and Winston had a great time meeting new friends.
