“This was our first visit, with Sam and Daisy, however we have stayed here several times previously, with our other dog(sadly no longer with us) So we knew what to expect, in terms of the location and facilities for dogs. On booking in at reception, we were giving a warm welcome, the dogs given fuss and treats from a waiting jar of doggy goodies. Our room was clean and welcoming with dog bowls and treats waiting for the dogs. It was a ground floor room, with access to an enclosed concrete patio for the dogs, looking onto the well groomed grounds. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the hotel, and are not just tolerate they are welcomed. You can dine with your dog, which is great, as our dogs suffer with separation anxiety. There were lots of dogs at the hotel of all breeds and sizes, however most guests, seemed to leave their dogs in their rooms when they dined. The food was delicious served pipping hot, and nicely presented, not an extensive menu, but fine if your only staying a few days. The menu was not standard pub food, and experimented with different flavour combinations that really worked. The breakfast was a varied choice, that had something to suit everyone. The dogs were presented with a sausage each for breakfast which they quickly ate. All the staff at the hotel were friendly, chatty and made you feel very welcome, during your stay. All in all, a nice relaxing good valve break away with the pets pyjamas deal. We will be back again soon.”

“Although the weather was not particularly kind, it rained most of the time, that did not dampen down our enthusiasm. We managed to explore a number of the woods gathered around the Hotel which go to make up the lovely Eggesford Forest and then returned to the very pleasant atmosphere in the hotel itself. The staff were amazingly attentive and really came across as determined to make sure we both had a great time....we did. Artemis was in her element being adored by all and sundry, I would highly recommend The Fox and Hounds and I will certainly be visiting again”

“We have just had the most lovely break with at The Fox and Hounds. It really did feel like home from home. We were made so welcome by the friendly and helpful staff. Food was good, room comfortable, sitting in front of the fire and reading a book was a treat and the grounds are beautiful. The dog had such a good time and we were able to have her with us everywhere we went. As lots of people had dogs it was very easy to strike up conversations. We will certainly be back.”

“Our third visit and it never fails to be lovely. Food is brilliant and staff always helpful and friendly, we love to come but so do our two small dogs Ted and Bill. I have no doubt we will be back at some time”

“We did a 2 night DBB deal and couldn't have been happier with our stay. Food was top notch, staff friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the room was delightful and we had access to a terrace from our room which was great for the dog. The hotel is so dog friendly and the grounds are great for that morning wake up walk. Will definitely be back if in the area.”

“We booked our short break through the excellent Pets Pyjamas and the quality of customer service continued throughout our stay. We had read the reviews of The Fox and Hounds and we were not disappointed. The hotel is a must if you enjoy holidaying with your dog, as it's clear the management and staff have carefully considered the needs of your companion. Appreciating that you've been on the road for some time, outside the main entrance is a filled bowl of clean water and before you even get to reception there's a tasty biscuit, a fluffy towell and some more clean water and you immediately know your dog is sincerely welcome. Where else would you find that? in my experience - nowhere. Then you meet the source of the gushing reviews, the amazing staff. From the initial warm greeting at reception, to the affectionate goodbye at departure, The Fox and Hounds team of Tyler, Tom, Flo and Tegan could not do enough for you. They genuinely want you and your dog to have a fantastic stay and this level of care is as refreshing as it is unusual. In particular we were highly impressed with Tyler, his attitude, efficiency and personality will put him in good stead for the future. Another highlight was the cusine. Absolutely first class, the food was fantastic quality and my only comment is for the head chef to consider some changes, including a wider choice of vegetarian dishes. For you and your four legged friend there's a fenced off grassed area at the rear of the hotel and so you can enjoy a lovely walk without leaving the well-stocked bar too far behind. The Fox and Hounds also has a hidden gem, a magnificent tree house, superbly sculptured around a 200 year old English Oak. Ask, Tom for a guided tour of the rooms, it will take your breath away. All in all, book The Fox and Hounds, you'll love it.”
