“Firstly, I can't fault the grounds leading to the river. Secondly,the staff are absolutely fabulous and the owner and his dog Otis are very amenable. Third and foremost it is really and truly dog friendly. There is a but ... Decor is very tired and everywhere looks like it needs a refurb and a bit more of an interior design touch. Nothing fancy just more inviting. The restaurant and linked bar doesn't quite know what it's trying to be...this too is tired, the tables more like a canteen with no finesse. Food, quite pricey but not good . Breakfast in what is obviously the venue room was equally sad. It is in a great spot, staff are great, dogs are very welcome but it lacks any character, as a country hotel , it doesn't live up to it's name. Frankly a little disappointed.”

“Beautiful grounds ...good food...5 stars to the staff and owner who were just lovely, friendly and very helpful. The room we had however is in dire need of refurbishment, though there was a new wet room in it, so they are doing refurbs bit by bit ....but l would recommend this hotel where you and your dog will be well looked after.”

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? For a very dog friendly hotel, it was a shame that frequent encounters with an unfriendly, reactive and noisy dog and a complacent owner took the edge off for us. Reactive aggressive barking when any dog (or wheel chair user!) entered any room should be challenged and checked by the owner, but it was not. Perhaps a three strikes rule for bad behaviour, which is clearly outlined when booking and in the hotel might help.

“We received such a warm welcome at The Fox & Hounds. It's clear the owners and staff have a passion for dogs and what they do. Our room was lovely and spacious and the food was very nice. Enjoyment was slightly reduced by an owner who took no steps to discipline her reactive and noisy dog. Such a dog friendly hotel, should really have a clear policy for owners who cannot or will not control their dogs.”

“Nice warm welcome lovely grounds for the dog to run about in , nice comfortable accommodation, evening meal was 5star couldn’t fault it and very reasonable prices Would highly recommend to anyone”

“It's a very good idea to have it dog friendly as they need the punters in all weathers. A lot of money was spent at one time, but it needs a lot of money soon as the hotel is a bit sad. A seesaw because having so many dogs does add wear and tare.”

“We enjoyed our stay. All staff very attentive. Great food. Decor bit tired in places. We were looking forward to sitting next to the log fire but it wasn’t put on. It wasn’t particularly cold but the rain had been horrendous and so a cosy fire would have cheered things up immensely. It was February.”

“Had a lovely stay.Great room.Lighting in bed room very dim.Really good breakfast dinner slightly below par.Same menu for our 3 night stay small selection on desert menu.”
