Battery Cut Off Switch MX5 Mk1/2/2.5 Reviews

Here's a great idea!Does your battery keep going flat when you haven't used your car for a while? Fed up with disconnecting your battery when you put your car away? Then we have the product for you. This great little switch can be fitted directly to the negative terminal of the battery, and with one easy twist it can be connected and disconnected in seconds. It can also serve two purposes. If the supplied fused link is used, it acts as an immobiliser. Once the cut off switch is disconnected it will still continue to supply power through the link, unless the starter motor is operated, when the fuse will blow making it impossible to start the car. If used without the fused link, it will cut all power to the car, preserving the battery, and ensuring your car will start again when you want it to!These fit perfectly to the Mk1, whilst the Mk2/2.5 will require a small piece of the cardboard battery cover to be removed so it will sit flush. It can not however be used on the Mk3, as the standard battery comes with the smaller post terminals.

Great piece of kit. No more flat battery, I have left car for a couple of weeks and starts fine. Battery use to go flat after a couple of days. Easy to fit but see photo as you need to put on at angle to tighten onto battery post. Quick delivery also.

Ok, so maybe you have to re-set clocks and perhaps re-tune your radio. Buuuut.... your battery WILL fire up your 5 come springtime sunshine. Plus.... maybe the alternator will be the only thing charging that battery for a few years yet.

I can’t get the battery cut off switch to fit, I put it on as per instructions but there is not enough room in the boot to put the battery back in it keeps hitting the inside of the car so cannot place the battery back in unless i take the cut off switch back off the battery no good for my mx5

So inexpensive but so effective. Just open the boot, turn the switch and the battery is cut off. Stops the worry of flat batteries. My 22 year old Mazda is no longer up for sale!

Our MX-5 has a small OEM Panasomic battery fitted, and these smaller batteries will tend to self-discharge quite quickly if not continually topped up from the alternator or a battery conditioner. They also charge quite slowly as well, so as to not risk damage to the gel innards. They should not be connected for a jump start either, for the same reasons. Given all these quirks/problems/"challenges" it makes sense to have a device that can, with the twist of a control, disconnect the battery rapidly so as to slow the discharge to a minimum. This is quite a beefy device (sorry, vegans) and may make reconnecting the battery slightly less easy given the small space available. As we've not used it yet, that remains to be seen. The principle is simple and the device should do what we want, with ease.

Useful piece of kit but the battery connection seems designed for a parallel battery post rather than the tapered one on my Mk2.5. Not sure of the connection so will put the 11mm spanners in the boot just in case.

Fitted perfectly to my 1995 Eunos. Had this 10 months now and bought new Westco battery & Optimate charger all at same time. I only do short journeys and battery now always optimised. Best security device going as even I cannot see the wheel to cut power to starter motor, however as it's my car i know exactly where to put my hand in the boot to do on/off. With boot open it takes me 5 seconds to operate this.
