IL Motorsport Rear Chassis Brace BarThis chassis brace was designed by a NASCAR chassis engineer for maximum rigidity. Each brace can be fitted in minutes and uses existing mounting holes. Even better, as you do not have to disturb any suspension mountings, there is no need to have wheel alignment carried out after fitting. These braces are now made for us in Europe allowing us to both reduce the price and monitor quality control thereby bringing you a better product at a better price! This rear bar can even be used in addition to the factory bar fitted to later cars for even greater strength.Fits all Mk1, Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1989>2005Fitting Instructions

Fitted to my mk2.5 bolt holes line up 100% but with a standard exhaust it requires the ends of the tubes to be cut shorter at a angle to clear the exhaust. Not a big problem but fouls until cut.

Really light but feels super solid. Fitted in ten minutes. I removed the rear tie hooks I noticed when I fitted this brace and I'm pretty sure the car now weighs less ! Not had a chance to hit the twistys yet to check performance

Was dubious on the difference this would make, but for everyday use, this does smooth out the ride and removes quite a bit of shake from the rear of the car. The car is now noticeably quieter.I previously fitted a front chassis bar, and then completed the set after a few weeks. Front definitely makes the biggest difference, but rear is worthwhile if you don't have any bracing in place.Only surprise is that the nuts are 1/2 inch imperial! Had to dig out my old spanners to fit.

If you are considering buying this, just do it! I've just added front and read chassis braces to my '96 Mk1 1.6l which didn't have them factory fitted and it makes a big difference. Not just handling is improved even more, but the ride is much more comfortable over bumpy roads and those damn thick paint strips on the way into 30 mph limits! The car feels more predictable and stable when cornering at high speed but I'd say worth it for the ride improvement alone. Dead easy to fit, didn't even need to jack up for rear brace. Instructions from MX5parts are better than manufacturers but IL Motorsport's website has lots of photos from different angle so you can check where they go (referred to as "connection rod, back): http://www.ilmotorsport.com/shop/article_detail.php5?aid=172&oid=1123&depth=3&page=0&count=12&PHPSESSID=cf7600d1d91e2a7797d72697a2a1a078

I purchased one of these and it does improve the handling and ride on my Mk2.5 feeling far more secure and helps to reduce scuttle shake along with front top and bottom braces. However the one section of the rear brace fouled the MX5 parts back box fitted to car. Luckily I have a small engineering company in the village that I live, who allowed to use a bench grinder to grind a large 45% champher on the end of the tube to stop it fouling the back box. This could easily be resolved by the manufacturer doing it in the first place and this would stop the negative comments that appear on the site.I will say that MX5 parts always deliver in double quick time and I,m very pleased with everything I have bought from them and will continue to buy from them in the future.

Bought this on Sunday and received Tuesday due to bank holiday. Well made piece with spot on fixings for my mk2. Had a lot of sanding to do because I wanted to paint it annodised red with a candy cane pattern. Came out really well. Seems to have tightened the back end up quite abit around the corners. You seems to feel where your back end is a lot more if that makes sense. Thanks guys for the great product and summer offers, love the online store!

Ordered front and rear braces Thurs, arrived Fri and fitted Sat to my 1991 Mk1 - great service from MX 5 parts. These braces really do make a difference, make the suspension feel much more positive, cuts down 'skittiness' when cornering or riding over poor road surface. Can't understand why Mazda didn't think of these as standard items - if you have a Mk 1 with no braces, get some of these fitted!
