IL Motorsport Rear Chassis Brace BarThis chassis brace was designed by a NASCAR chassis engineer for maximum rigidity. Each brace can be fitted in minutes and uses existing mounting holes. Even better, as you do not have to disturb any suspension mountings, there is no need to have wheel alignment carried out after fitting. These braces are now made for us in Europe allowing us to both reduce the price and monitor quality control thereby bringing you a better product at a better price! This rear bar can even be used in addition to the factory bar fitted to later cars for even greater strength.Fits all Mk1, Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1989>2005Fitting Instructions

I fitted both the fRont top & rear brace to my mk1. There is a dramatic difference in the road holding & a lot less roll when hitting the inevitable pot holes on our roads. A good buy & easy to fit

If you have an MX-5 without a factory fitted brace bar i imagine this will help no end, if you have a factory fitted brace this is a waste of £40.Everyone who fits this product and gives stellar reviews either had no factory fitted brace, or fitted it alongside the front brace. If you have a brace already this gets 1 star, if you don't it would get 5 stars.Save up and buy a roll bar/cage/hardtop if you want extra stiffness.

Well made piece of kit. However if you have a MK 2.5 I cannot recommend that you buy this item as it does not fit without rubbing on the exhaust backbox on both sides of the exhaust, also many (if not all) mk 2.5's already have a factory fitted brace in this area. This is with a standard back box too. I tried the suggestion of mounting it upside down, but it will not fit at all like that. When I fitted an aftermarket backbox the situation got slightly better in that it stopped rubbing on the drivers side, but it rubbed still on the passenger side. Specifically it rubbed against the end of the CAT/midpipe section of the exhaust. That part of my exhaust is a standard part. I will refit the brace, but only after I have had a custom midpipe/CAT pipe made (I am doing this for other reasons anyway) and I will show the fabricators the brace and where it needs to fit.

Absolutely worth for the money! Together with the front one, they really stiffen the chassis. Now the car goes rock hard. I have a mk2, so I can't figure the amazing improvement that this braces give to a mk1.Only one thing: I have the stock exhaust/muffler, and I have had to do "some work" in the brace left ending for avoiding the contact with the exhaust. Also, one interesting tip is "playing" with the exhaust rubber mounting rubs.I previously fitted yellow konis, did Miq's alignment, fitted PE2 tyres, made many many tests with the shocks adjusting and tyres pressures, for a perfect set up, and I can say this braces are the best improvement I've made to my car's handling. The difference is impressive. A must.

As usual, perfect service from MX5 Parts, but one comment, the instructions are unreal! I know they have been translated from German (very badly) but how about MX5 Parts doing their own version. The instructions say there should be 4 bolts, when there are only 2.

I'm amazed at this brace.. such a small bar of metal has made such a difference on the car... I have it fitted to my 2003 Sport, lowered 35mm with H&R springs on the standard bilsteins... Adding this to the back end of the car has changed the way it drives.. The turn-in on corners is great and the imfamous 67mph rear shake has gone... EXCELLENT!!And still MX5parts is the top dog for my MX5.. cheers guys

Had these fitted to my sons K Reg Eunos, along with Bilstein dampers ( second hand e bay) and new bump stops plus and also front and rear chassis underbody braces along with an under bonnet Front chassis brace. (make sure you remeber to get the front mounting gaskets) The car rides on 17" ALLOYS with Yokohama tyres. The handeling is transformed to put it mildly yes it is bumpy and the local speed bumps are a pain , but it is now low and the steering very responsive, down side is mainly you hit a pothole you do know about it. The chassis is now very stiff but it is like driving a racing car ( I have done some motorsport in the past). Personally it is too stiff for for me but for a car mad 18 year old it is like a Go Kart. Personally I think it has become worse in the wet but on a dry day and good road it goes wonderfully . My favourite mechanic Dave fitted it all fro us and came back with the interesting fact that the front springs where mixture one correct and one that was clearly the longer back one, so the car had been bodged at some time in the past. Explains the front end wander next job fit the Veilside front bumper , then get the alignment and tracking checked over ! Many thanks as usual to MX5 spare all parts always arrived quickly and also thansk fro the tecgnical advice as the first front coil removed by Dave was the incorrect was the incorrect long one which caused him soem head scrtaching and phone call. I will post this on the front and back braces section as well, doing all at once is a good idea. Chris Meadows
