IL Motorsport Rear Chassis Brace BarThis chassis brace was designed by a NASCAR chassis engineer for maximum rigidity. Each brace can be fitted in minutes and uses existing mounting holes. Even better, as you do not have to disturb any suspension mountings, there is no need to have wheel alignment carried out after fitting. These braces are now made for us in Europe allowing us to both reduce the price and monitor quality control thereby bringing you a better product at a better price! This rear bar can even be used in addition to the factory bar fitted to later cars for even greater strength.Fits all Mk1, Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1989>2005Fitting Instructions

Fits fine on a MK1 but needs to be upside down so the loop is at the top. Just bought a 2002 MK2.5 and it hits all of the exhaust pipes and back box. Solution is to cut the stubby open ends short with an angle grinder. 15 mins work job done and it now hangs as it should do with the loop at the bottom. Great piece of kit with the usual MX Parts super fast delivery but why do they make the studs so long when you can only get about 15 degree turn on a spanner?

My wife bought this together with the front brace for me for Christmas (aren't I a lucky chap?) These chassis braces have transformed the handling of my early Mk1! Previously it was a bit twitchy and skittish and it would rattle and slip over bumps and potholes. Now the chassis braces are fitted, it's a completely different car - it's planted, composed and solid. I can put down more power into bends now and it feels rigid and poised, just like my late Mk1. I'm delighted!Fitting the rear brace is a doddle and even the front brace was simple enough if you read the instructions carefully (I didn't, at the cost of a frustrated hour fitting the bolts the hard way). The bolt needs to be placed INSIDE the wishbone bracket, facing downwards, as opposed to how mine came assembled from the factory. It is then easily accessed with a spanner through the bottom gap between the lower wishbone and its bracket. It was unfortunate that the rather untidy welding, particularly on the front brace let down an otherwise excellent piece of kit, but I wouldn't let that stop you from getting a set!

Amazing product. Easily fitted to my mk1 and gave a noticeable differenct to handelling.Another feather in it's cap is I had a large collision the other day, the insurance engineer/assessor stating it would have been much worse without this fitted and that as far as he could see this was the difference between them repiring and writhing her off. So my god I'm pleased I fitted it!

You can fit this with a 13mm spanner without even jacking the car up and it makes an obvious improvement to the tightness of handling at the back. However, when fitted the brace fouled a section of exhaust pipe on the nearside and the exhaust back box on the offside as the tubular fittings that attach to the sub frame are too long for my standard UK Mk2. I remedied the problem by grinding off the corners which hopefully hasn\'t weakened the brace too much but turned a ten minute job into an hour or two of faffing. Fitting it upside down as some posts suggests wasn\'t possible.Editors Note: Sorry to hear you had problems fitting this item. A member of our customer services team will be in touch soon to discuss the matter, as this bar should fit perfectly, particularly with a standard exhaust. Unless weakened mounting rubbers have caused the exhaust to sit out of line, there should be plenty of clearance. If we could perhaps get a photograph of the problem, we will certainly be in contact with the supplier for their comments.

An absolute must have item for a MK1. I purchased the front and the rear brace from MX5 parts on Sunday night and had them at the house on Wednesday. I fitted the rear brace in about 10mins, then spent the next 30mins fitting the front brace. The front brace was a bit fiddly and I used a magnetic pickup tool to locate the nut on top of the bolt. All in all not really difficult, just a bit frustating doing the front. I can hardly believe the difference this has made to the car. I've driven it for 6 years and it's never handled anywhere near this good. Well chuffed!
