I want to give this a rave review but I just can't. It has its positives; usable space, an extra plug socket and visually appealing. However, it falls short in too many ways for me to recommend it.Perhaps the biggest annoyance is that almost immediately the magnet that holds the lid open or closed came away in moments and could be reattached, leaving me with a sliding lid when I accelerate or brake. Considering the steep price of the unit I would have hoped for better build quality.Of course, I could ask for a return but fitting it led me to being unable to ever remove it. Due to the crimps being so poor the only effective way of wiring it was to significantly strip the wires of both the car and unit and wrap it in insulation tape. If I were to take it out that wire would be ripped to shreds. All in all, I like the product, it just needed a bit more time spent on fine-tuning it considering the high price of the thing.

Fairly straightforward to fit, once the front and rear trims were unclipped (a bit tense not wanting to force or damage the plastic) did not need the extra 12V outlet just used to blank off the hole. A transformation in terms of cockpit storage and looks the part.

This was the first mod I made to my newly-acquired MX-5, so I wasn't at all familiar with how the car's interior is put together. Consequently the job took a little longer than anticipated. However, removal of the old unit with cup-holders was pretty straightforward once I had read the instructions a few times. The wiring was a bit fiddly, but once I had worked out how the spliced-in connectors worked it all slotted into place. I now have a very usable storage area which holds a pack of paper tissues, mobile phone charger, pen, notebook, travel sweets and other "essentials".The finish matches the rest of the interior trim (although if I was being very, very picky I would observe that the moulded ribs on the top are not quite as sharply defined as the original lid). The magnetic closure works at least as well as the OE catch, but with no moving parts to break or wear out.Overall a worthwhile improvement on the OE "cup holders" arrangement - especially when there are two perfectly usable beverage holders in the doors anyway!

Have just fitted this item with no difficulty. Can't believe Mazda didn't fit this as standard. Looks good and matches the rest of the trim perfectly. Not the cheapest of items but worth doing.

I should have fitted this ages ago; the original is a really dreadful bit of design and so irritating because you cannot use it for anything else. The finish and fit on the replacement item is good if not quite up to the original standard. I did not want the 12v socket so I fitted a grommet, but they could have provided one. I only had to take the console off, so the job took about an hour and it was fiddly. The instructions are awful. Slightly better in German but that is not saying much. This is not a cheap item and you would think that a decent set of instructions would be provided. Despite the niggles this is well worth fitting.

Further to my purchase of a centre console storage tray, the black coating on the tray lid is rubbing off to reveal the tan plastic base colour. It looks most unsightly and does not do justice to the high price charged for the unit. I wanted a tan colour to begin with but evidently they were not available at the time I ordered mine. Most disappointing.Editors Note: Sorry to hear that you\'ve had a problem with the finish, a member of our customer service team will be in touch to request photos of the problem. IL Motorsport take quality very seriously and we will forward the pictures directly to them for their comments.

I should have got this 2 years ago when I got the car! I was a bit worried that this would not be a perfect match with original Mazda trim, but looks as it is meant to be. Mazda should fit this as standard as it is a lot more useful than having 4 cup holders in a 2 seater. Very easy to fit, 3/4hr from start to finish.
