About Mooncup:

Mooncup began with a clear goal: to give people a healthier, sustainable way to manage their periods.

Back in 2002, we launched the world’s first medical-grade silicone menstrual cup, pioneering a movement that put health and the planet first. We saw an industry where profit came before people, ingredients were hidden, and plastics reigned, so we challenged the status quo.

Now, we're on a mission to become the world’s biggest sustainable period care brand. We’ve just launched Mooncup period pads into Sainsbury’s, Boots, Holland & Barrett and Look Fantastic. We’re also partnering with workplaces, gyms and hotels (like Canva, Danone, Third Space, Gymshark and Claridge’s) to offer free period care in bathrooms.

We use only science-backed, body-safe ingredients because your period products should work with your body, not against it.

In theory, I love this product. From the environmental issues of single use sanitary wear to the cost implications, I wanted this to work for me. However, it is tricky to use and even once I could get comfortable with it, I found it quite messy and difficult. I wouldn’t use this outside of my home, I just think it would be too messy.

I got this for my wife who has been thinking of switching to this instead of tampons for a while, for eco reasons. She says she wishes she had done so earlier, as the cup is easy to use, and despite feeling a little unusual at first, soon stops feeling strange. Happy to have made the swap.

This is a little misleading. ‘Beginner’ means first time user not young or teen. The size ‘A’ is also the largest size so again a little confusing if you don’t read all the information properly. I’ve been using this brand for approximately 20 years so I do rate it and my first menstrual cup was from this brand. Compared to that one, and others I own / have used, this is incredibly soft and comfortable… but this size is too big for me. That’s even with me fitting all the criteria for this size (except the having given birth bit). It is a bit of trial and error but I would use the sizing as a guide rather than gospel.I massively rate them and think everyone should try them and this brand is excellent so I definitely do recommend it. Just be aware of the sizing. Read all the information and don’t give up if you don’t get the right size initially.

This is a but fiddly to get used to inserting but when it is in position it is very comfortable and effective. It is messy when it comes to removal and I am not sure I would be OK with removing it in a public toilet - you really need a sink in the room with you to get clean. The main positive for me is that you aren’t constantly leaking (as with pads) and it is as effective (if not more) as a tampon but it doesn’t dry you out. Being at a perimenopausal age, I have started to have some very uncomfortable issues with dryness and just couldn’t tolerate tampons any more because of it. This allows your natural moisture to remain.I do find that my cervix is very sensitive on my period and this was a little uncomfortable initially on insertion but fairly quickly after that, it unfolded and found the right position.Cleaning is the main thing that will put you off but it doesn’t have to be too intense if you just get some steriliser solution and put it in it after you have your period.I like that this is reusable and you don’t have to keep going back to buy more disposables if you can get in with it.Removal was tricky at first, and I think it will take some time to get used to the right techniques for insertion and removal, but it is worth the effort, especially if you have very heavy periods because this can hold a significant amount of blood - more than even the most absorbent tampon.I’m still figuring this out and seeing when I am comfortable using it but I am pleased that I have started down this path and would recommend it to others instead of tampons.

As a long time mooncup user and fan, I was very happy to try this new version. Technically, no, I’m not a beginner, but had a break from the cup for nearly two years after having a baby. Not only did I need a different size but I was a bit out of practice.I’d had my previous mooncup for around 12 years and been really happy with it. However after having a baby nothing felt the same. I thought the larger size and more flexible cup would be just what I needed. Unfortunately, that hasn’t proven to be the case. I haven’t had issue positioning the cup - simply folding it in on itself and inserting it has always worked for me - but I haven’t found it easy to keep it in the right place. I’ve had to wear an extra layer of protection when using the mooncup, which defeats the object slightly. However, I have to say that I have also struggled using tampons since giving birth, and I don’t think this is unusual - things are just different now and having now tried a mooncup again I think sadly those days are behind me.What I really liked about this cup compared to my original, almost vintage mooncup, is that I think it’s easier to clean. The holes around the rim are slightly larger than on the original mooncup which I sometimes had to clean out with a pin to make sure they were clean - with this new one it’s much easier to feel confident it’s clean.I’m pretty gutted this didn’t work for me because I loved my mooncup previously. It does take some getting used to so please don’t give up if you are trying this for the first time - it does get easier with practice!

I have used plenty of menstrual cups and none come close to this one. The quality is excellent, the size is perfect and it is so easy to clean. The cup is so soft and flexible, making it easy to insert and remove. The instructions are clear and concise too. It suctions well and stays in place.

The cup is soft and well-made, the instructions are clear and thorough, and it’s a good way to save money on your sanitary products each month once you’ve absorbed the initial cost outlay.Only issue was, I could not manage to get comfortable with it; I just don’t like the feeling of it in. Tried repeatedly, but not for me. Also couldn’t manage to remove it without making a mess, which is the opposite of convenient, unfortunately.I don’t feel comfortable rating this low simply based on my personal experience, so it gets 4 stars, because if it works for you, it’s a really great idea, and looking at other reviews it’s clear I’m in the vast minority. I would encourage you to try it, particularly as there’s a 90-day satisfaction guarantee period.

As I first time cup user I wanted to try a brand I had heard of. I did struggle to place it correctly the first time but the website had lots of helpful tips. I ended up going with the “c” fold and finally got the cup in place.
