Tony Dixon - TENOR FLUTE - Key of D
Low D tapered-bore flute.
The tapered bore gives this instrument a very responsive and solid tone, very noticeable particularly on bottom notes.
The flute is made from polymer.
A great beginner flute for all ages.

Great for beginners Never played the flute before, but could play a bit of whistle. This flute is ideal for the beginner who isn’t sure if they want to commit to the flute - it’s cheap but it’s good quality so you get the best of both worlds

Dixon fixed tuned Irish flute I got this flute from McKneela music for the princely sum of £32 plus shipping. This was an absolute bargain, and coupled with the McKneela endorsement ment, I just couldn’t go wrong. Thank you sir.

Wonderful way to start on a transverse flute! I have played various whistles, recorders, and end-blown flutes for many years. But I never got a modern Boehm transverse flute for two reasons: first, a decent one is expensive, and second, the seemingly endless number of keys on the things are the exact opposite of what is beautiful to me about the flute -- simplicity. With a Baroque flute, or traditional Irish flute, the elegant simplicity is there, but they can still be pretty expensive, if you are not sure you will be playing a lot. The Tony Dixon D Tenor I got from McNeela is perfect for my situation. It is inexpensive, it is sturdy enough for a camping trip in damp weather, it is elegant, and it has a lovely tone. Any shortcomings I have noticed so far are in my own performance, not the instrument. I am in the US, and could find nothing close to the Tony Dixon. Honestly, I was surprised Yamaha didn't make something like it, but they don't. I am having a great time with it, and a guitarist friend I jam with already likes it better than my recorders (that I can play much better, haha). I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to take the plunge into the side-blown flute world!

Great flute, perfect to learn, and plays well enough to continue using, especially if you don't want to worry about climate issues. Also, for seniors, this flute is very light, so you won't strain your fingers. It sounds great! And the price is great!

This flute is excellent. I've tried several different flutes over the years. I had a Tony Dixon flute that was cylindrical, I sold it because it was nothing great, and intonation not so good. This flute works way better. I even think the tone quality,( if you already have a flute embouchure) is better than some wooden flutes. You cannot go wrong with this flute. You can spend tons more, but this thing plays great, if you already can play flute. If you're a beginner it's a perfect choice because of the fantastic price, even if it wasn't on sale. If you want to try simple Irish flute I would recommend this one. period.

Great flute for beginners This is a great choice for a beginner who wants to try out the Irish flute. It's a cost-friendly yet really good quality instrument. For me, being used to play the tin whistle, it's a bit of a learning curve to learn to play the flute properly, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it with a lot of practice. The flute has a nice sound. I'm very pleased with this purchase.
