Tony Dixon - TENOR FLUTE - Key of D
Low D tapered-bore flute.
The tapered bore gives this instrument a very responsive and solid tone, very noticeable particularly on bottom notes.
The flute is made from polymer.
A great beginner flute for all ages.

Well constructed & visually nice to look at. As it's a 'D' flute, it is long. Thus, challenging to play given the distances of the holes. I am a novice flute player and find it challenging to get good quality sound. The mouth hole is larger than another 'D' flute that I own (which is much easier to play). Surely an advanced flute player would be much better on this Dixon flute. Just the same, I continue to try to play it.

Hi Denise, thank you for your review. If you're having trouble handling this size of flute, don't worry we have the solution. Try the Piper's Grip, it's a way of fingering the flute that allows you to cover the tone holes with ease, even if you've small hands. Here's a link to our blog post: https://blog.mcneelamusic.com/the-pipers-grip-for-irish-simple-system-flute-players/ If you're still having difficulty with this flute and need more advice please email us at service@mcneelamusic.com

I love this flute, it's tone is amazing. When I feel I've earned one, I'll step up to a wood model flute. Thank you for the wonderful instrument.

I'm a beginner on the Irish flute and am enjoying playing my new D flute TB014. I'm still working on emboucher control. Tricky, yes. The flute is lovely for me. Thank you so much

Great for a beginner with long fingers This is a great beginner flute. It's important to note, as one of the others reviews did, that the last hole is difficult to reach. I have fairly large hands and sometimes find it easier to just use my pinky. If that's something you can work with, go for it! The flute is one piece and molded resin, so it can be difficult to clean but, for the same reasons, is easier than having to deal with cork grease and splitting. It has a wonderful, mellow sound - again, it's a great beginner flute.

For this price, you won't find a better practice flute. It's easy to play in both octaves and sounds better than some more expensive flutes.

I would like to rate the customer service and follow-up following my less than rave review. The flute itself is a great buy and a fine instrument but my hands were too small. So McNeela responded to my review with some great advice about using the piper's grip. So helpful and lovely response to my review. In case anyone else with small hands might be interested:https://blog.mcneelamusic.com/2018/12/11/the-pipers-grip-for-irish-simple-system-flute-players/
