Freeview Play Recorder FVP-5000T 1TB (Refurbished) Reviews

4.2 Rating 334 Reviews
It's a bit clunkey in comparison to the Virgin box and the remote is poor. Why not make all the most used buttons bigger, all together & in the centre rather than at the end. The Virgin handset can be used easily in the dark as the buttons are logically placed and different shapes. It fits the hand better than the Humax. The big thing in its favour is it saves me £45 per month in Virgin subscriptions.

The Humax FVP-5000T was purchased to replace a Humax Fox HDR-T2 which had provided many years of service, looked great and had amazing build quality. The refurbished FVP-5000T appears as new despite the outer box having the security seal broken. All recordings have completed with 100% reliability and connection to WiFi has ensured update of system firmware has happened automatically in the background without user inter intervention. When activating remote recording, which is a great feature, I suspect that every time the device switches on to check for recording schedule updates it causes a brief “no signal” on the connected Sony Television. Since switching off remote recording this has stopped happening.

The price of the refurbished unit was very competitive. The device works well, Time will tell on its reliability. I did have an issue with setting up the unit...when I selected a screen definition (1080) the screen would not display and I could not go back in the settings menu. I called Humax Customer support and they could not resolve the issue. I eventually sorted it myself but was not impressed with the lack of support.

Only had it a couple of months .Problems so far. 1: It didn't tune in to all channels on auto search, I had to do a manual search on missed channels. 2: It has failed to record 3 recordings from the schedule. Hopefully the tech solution will address this problem. Apart from that it is extremely good value for the quality it delivers. I had the previous model, which I found outstanding, but this latest model is even better. I like the way in which I only need the PVR remote to control the TV + sound bar. Don't have broadband so can't comment on Smart features. It came well packaged with everything needed to work straight from the box, even had a hard copy of the manual, which I appreciated and is a refreshing change from an E.manual. Overall I am well chuffed.

Easy to set up and easy to operate, records about 4 programs at once and has a large storage disc for the recorded programs. No DVD play back with recorder unlike my last one (from Samsung) which is a bit of a pity that said I think this Humax Freeview recorder is great value for money and would recommend it.

My son recommended Humax after I decided to give BT Sport and vision. It took a little time to set up but all is going well and I find the display very helpful. There is one issue that puzzles me. Every now and again the recorded programmes disappear! I find that switching off and on (the international cure for computer problems) usually solves the problem. A useful addition is a built in Netflix link.
